Removing shift boot

Just a quick question...was working on my Verde today, and found a new shift boot that I had bought about 6 months ago...had the center console loose, so I tried to put it on....which leads me to asking, how do you go about getting that metal clippy thing, that holds the boot in place, off? I tried pulling on it...all sorts of stuff...but eventually gave up to go wash another car

I have an extra console laying around my garage. It looks like the only way to remove the boot is to unbend the clips from the bottom. The boot is held in by 6 metal tabs on a metal frame. The clips are bent at a 90 degree angle to secure it to the plastice frame.

I'll send a picture if you need to see it.

Hmm, you think I have to take that console piece out of the car to do it? I haven't gotten out there yet, to try and pry it loose...

Hi Ted,

I think you can remove the boot if you can raise the center console enough to get under it. It depends on how much of a masochist you are.

See the image below.

Well, wripping out the ABS this weekend....so I'd say I could probably just crawl underneath the console, smother myself in honey and wait for ants....maybe that's going too far?

Hey Ted,

I know you hate ABS, and that ALL Verdes should have no ABS (why not, they can't be real cars if they have electronics). But please, please don't cut up the harness or destroy any ABS part. If you really do hate them, put them in a box and I'll come pick 'em up.

Hey, I don't hate ABS....I'd keep it if it wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg to fix....why limp it along and then end up replacing the whole system when I can put in a conventional system and be done with it
