Bob,
I "fixed" the rear mount about 5,000 miles ago.
The hardest part was to figure out what piece of left over rubber junk to stuff into it. Then glue it together with some silicone gel.
It doesn't move left or right so there is nothing to break it loose.
The ride is a little more harsh, only if you are sensitive to a few more vibrations.
And the fixed mount is a lot better than hearing the motor bang around.

It's a 64mm mount for the Alfetta. I used a $15 homemade tool to press it out, a three arm puller and a 2-inch pipe cap. Worked great!

I used 2 long threadall and some big thick cast washers. One washer would set on the bush but fit into the mount hole. I drilled 2 holes to go on ether side of the thong. This is where I put the threadalls. The other washer is oversize.
I used a bit of mufferpipe on the oversizes side. The ID is just a bit bigger then the bush. I then puled the old one out into the chunk of mufferpipe . Then I used the same thing without the mufferpipe to suck the new in.

the center hole needed to be bigger then the rod part of the bush. I think I had to drill it out some. I did it all with stuff I had laying around at the time.

Good news

Just received a call from Vick's Auto, they have rear engine mounts in stock. I didn't ask how many or what kind, I was just happy to hear they now exist.

Thanks for picture, I think we will try something similiar in order to press in the new mount.

I'm a little confused, seems the picture shows the engine canted substantially to one side. Could you confirm this and maybe explain what you had to disconnect in order to get that much movement?

thanks for that info. i just called & they have them for $58. he said that vick's is having them made since they've been NLA for 2 years. he also said that they'll continue having them made and that they are available in limited quantities. in other words, they should have them in stock but as we're all used to, no guarantees in the alfa world!

Aldo it's a pain but I disconnected the bellhousing from the engine, it was the only way to lower the mount enough to get any sort of tool on it. Removing the starter is no fun, you literally have to drive the shoulder bolt out it fits so tight. Make sure you disconnect the battery first if you start working around the starter.

jes (AR4me) shows in his thread how he replaced the rear mount by jacking up the front of the engine:

Roxanne - budget milano/75 track car

scroll down about half the page until you see a red floor jack under the front of the car. he did it without undoing the bell housing or starter or driveshaft.

No problem with the battery cables, I'll probably attach them to my testicles so that tha'll distract me from the pain of working on these cars. Seems nothings easy.

Its all relative though! You cant kick at how easy it is to drop out the transaxle on these cars. I've helped some friends with their cars and always come back to mine happy that mines so easy and accessible.

Ahm not a smart man Jenny.
Not sure how his V-6 Milano aft tilt clearance compares to my Alfetta four cylinder though, or how long his radiator hoses will stretch if they're still attached (priced antifreeze lately?). My engine did not allow for much, but I was able to tilt her a good bit aft with the mounts and radiator hoses still attached- until the back of the cylinder head contacted the throttle linkage assembly bolted across the firewall and the brake booster. I was not about to try and tear all of that out. So when I ran out of aft tilt travel, I went with the bell housing removal. Should have removed the exhaust manifold to better reach the attachment bolts on the drivers side, I took the lazy rout and now my right forearm looks like a week-old banana.

I did mine with out removing the bell. this part seems to last longer then the rest. as I did it years ago and I have had to change the trany mounts 3 times and the front motor mounts 2 times and that part is 100% good still.

Well, just wanted to report success on installing the rear motor mount.

My son, Christian did the lion's share of the work, I moaned and bitched for both of us.

A couple of pics of what we ended up doing.
As you can see we sort of stole bits from all the great suggestions.
