oil sending unit

Hi gang,
Does anyone have any experience changing the oil sending unit? If so, would you be willing to list out a couple quick instructions for me? I'll be doing this this weekend.

Thanks in advance!

you mean the oil pressure level sender for the guage or the pressure warning lamp sender?

the one that moves the oil pressure guage's needle is a little vertical cylindrical shaped sender right behind the engine behind the V banks. One needs a wrench cut to make it short enough to get under and undo the sender.

The pressure wwarning lamp sender is in the V on the back side of driver side bank.

Both senders are very close to each other.

I think alfa twiki or tthe gtv6.org has articles on how to get to these senders...

I recall there were 2 different thread design for the pressure warning lamp sender...

Hi Jess
Yes it's the vertical oil pressure gauge sender. I just tried for about 2 hours to get the thing off. I have crow's feet wrenches but ehy are actually too thick to fit on the nut underneath the sensor. You mentioned that you cut a wrnech to fit onto the sender? Can you explain a little more what you did maybe I'll try that.

thanks

Grinding down the crowfoot to make it thinner might help.

Hi Papajam,
That's a good idea. Do you know about how much height is open on the sender nut? I noticed the port on the block that it is threaded into is kind of raised so I wasn't sure what thickness I should griind it to.

Haven't a clue, to be honest. But I'll take a guess of somewhere around 7mm.

Now that you mention it, that sounds about right. I noticed I could fit my pinkie between the sender and the block port at thats about 7mm. I'll give it a try!

Or, see if there's another V6 alfisti in your area who already has such a tool made. Say, what's your location?

I don't have the tool myself either, when I did mine, I had luxury of another alfisti who lend me his home grown tool Basically a normal wrench cut short enough and thin enough to get in. I had enough leverage with the tool alone to undo mine, but some times you might need another wrench or vice grip to help turning it.

Hi Jess
I'm in western NY. Actually I made a tool out of a cone wrench. This is a wrench used on bicycles for the bearing gyuides. They are about 1/8 inch thick and I bent it and ground it to fit exactly under the sender unit. The only problem is the nut was actually at a position where the wrnech couldn't even grip a corner! I basically gave up but I did perform an experiemnt regarding the oil pressure. I'm actually going ot start a new thread regarding some pressurres so see what you guys think.
