How do you remove the oil filter on a V6?
I want to change the oil and filter on my milano and I was looking at how to remove the oil filter and it appears you have to remove the a/c compressor to get it out? It doesnt look like that big a deal if you have to, but I just wondered if I was missing something that might save some time.

Don't remove the A/C compressor!
The manual suggests you remove the air box, you can do that if you want. Otherwise, I suggest getting one of those 3/8" drive oil filter "universal" socket things that extends, wiggle in there, clip it over the oil filter and turn!

Hmm, I will try that then, I still cant see how you would get it out though once you take it off. lol

I usually take the air filter housing off to give you more room but that's it.

You can squeeze it past the AC hoses. It certainly helps if you let it cool off first.

need to take the air filter housing off. make sure all hose connections are tight when you put it back on.
depending if you have small or big filter - might have to fiddle with the AC hoses.
i usually just pull the screw holding the bracket to the inner fender. this allows the hoses to move enough to let you snake the filter out - with out spilling too much oil.

It's certainly not an easy job, but once you start working on it, you'll figure out a way to pull the sucker out.
Replacement filters are usually a bit shorter, so from there on it's a lot easier to work with.

I used to just reach in with out removing anything. and un do it with my hand.
after I added to oil/to water cooler/heater thing I nolonger can get the grip to undo it so I now use a filter tool that goes on a ratchet. taking off the top part of the air cleaner does help some if needed. after you get it off put your finger in the hole where the threads are and pull it up with the other hand push on the AC hoses they need to be pushed just a tiny bit out of the way.
going on is easy as long as you are right handed..
fill the filter with oil, cote the rubber ring with oil on all sides and snap is back on the filter. then push the filter back down keep the hole pointing up reach in and flip it on to the threads and spin. hand tight like any cars oil filter, done..

That's exactly how I do it, including putting my finger in the thread hole. It is not overly difficult after you have done it once or twice. I don't bother removing anything else.

do the job with engine cold or barely warm, do not do hot. do not touch the airbox or the a/c compressor. i use a tool with adjustable jaws (super graphite 10627F from Flotool Corp.} - go in under the chassis & grip the filter body in the correct direction to loosen the filter on its threads. have a bucket positioned uder the filter yo catch the drip. go in from above with both hands (it helps to have small hands) & unscrew the filter. hold it with the threaded base upward. use your filger in the threaded hole to get a grip on the filter. pull it out past the rubber hoses, pulling toward the reaf of the engine. this will require some wiggling. i use the following filters - bosch 72189, fram PH16, AC PF 1180, Ford FL300. there is no point in using the alfa factory filter, its capacity is too small. installation is the reverse of what you just did. smear a little oil on the new rubber gasket first. use the pliers to tighten the filter from under the car, hand tightening is not sufficient. add new oil, run the engine & check for drips.

A Fram PH3600 is small enough in diameter to pull out easily. It is longer than some of the other filters mentioned so its internal surface area should be comparable. It is the filter used on most Fords.
