Eh, I'd say that's about .75 dope then...but to each his own. Hey, look at the events forum. LeMans carting is having a european car meet. #1, you should enter your car and #2 they have a lot of karting for only $50. I'm signing up tomorrow and a few of my drifter buddies are coming to. Get Nizam to come out too! And I'm going to Infinion with NASA again, Nov 11th or something, PM if interested.
Back to safety equiptment

Kevin,
It may be cheaper to deal directly with Autopower - they do that:
Autopower Industries - Application List
Last year I just called them directly and ordered my complete roll cage from them. I also picked up directly from their shop since they are only 1h away.
For some reason they have a lot of Alfa jigs...

As an instructor, I would *never* get in the passenger seat of a car where the driver is better protected than I am. As a hosting club, I would never allow it.
AROC doesn't require roll bars in enclosed cars, unless they're 'highly modified' (class A or B). This rule is under review.
For a sedan, what's the problem with attaching the shoulder harnesses to a reinforced rear parcel shelf?
If I were going to do the occasional track event in a lightly modified enclosed car, I'd reinforce the rear parcel shelf, bolt in harness grade eye hooks, then remove the rear seat and clip on the harnesses for the event. Very easily put back to something more stock looking after the event.
With a more modified car, I'd install a roll bar, but with 16 bolts, and 2 people, I think 15 minutes for installation or removal is pushing it. Not to mention the risk of damaging seats or headliners as you put the bar in place, or remove it.
And yes, the car will go faster if you paint flames on the bar, or put some racing stickers on it. Whoo hoo!

So I finally arrived at my solution to this question a year and a half later...and now that I read all the posts it is actually quite funny. Turns out Monty got rid of his Verde and ended up putting his rollbar on e-bay which I happened to see. Got an awesome deal on it and since I'm relatively local (4 hrs each way) I went down and picked it up, turns out he lives about a stones throw away from where I was born, talk about coincidences!
I also bought a G-Force 6-point harness from SafeRacer and am hoping to finish up the install of that today for my first track event of the season on Tuesday.
Now I just have to find a reasonable race seat that will let my big head fit the limited headroom better. My head is jammed up against the headliner with the Recaro's. In our LeMons Verde we took out the sunroof and I've got plenty of room in that but I can't just rivet in cover and go with no headliner in my DD :-). For now I took my spare recaro and simulated the breaking of the cushion rubber pad underneath (by removing it) which gives another 2 inches or so of headroom which is just enough. Not so comfortable but it works and I can stand it for about 40 minutes of driving at a rip.
Any suggestions on reasonable race seats?
Kevin

There are a few seats in the $300 range. Or look at craigslist.org in your area. Corbeau and Sparco makes a few budget seat.

Yeah, I've been watching CL in four states (they are smaller on this side ) for Sparco, Corbeau, and Kirkey for a few weeks now, so far nothing decent. Been watching e-bay as well, have a question out to one local guy from there but I think the seats will be too small.

I love Corbeau TRS. They are like Recaro SRD's but cheaper...reclinable with large thigh and torso bolsters.

The main thing I need to have the new seat do is increase my head clearance. I've seen quite a few reclining race type seats but they look just as thick as the stock Recaro's and wouldn't do anything for my head clearance issue.
