Recaro Seats

Hi

I want to redo my Verde Recaros with original fabric - how
to get the stitched Recaro logo in the middle of the seats on the new seats?

Anybody knows a good upholstery shop in San Diego area?

thanks for your help......

Fritz

By far your best bet will be Ocean Beach Upholstery on Voltaire. Try to talk with Thomas Pocius. He's very knowledgeable and has done a lot of cars that go to Pebble Beach. Keep in mind that what you're asking for will not be inexpensive. In fact, recovering Recaro's in in basic seatcover material is not inexpensive due to the multiple panels/pockets involved.

Recaro Seats in SF Bay Area?

I have the same question as Fritz, but for the SF Bay Area.

Where is a good shop in the area that can redo Verde seats with the OEM ""Recaro" logo? Thanks in advance!

Timo, did you ever find a place to do your seats? I'm in the Bay area too and I'd like to know where to get these done as well. Anyone else have a pointer? Thanks!

Timo, Woody,

Have you guys been to Sid's Custom Upholstery in Mountain View? They are at:

Sid's Custom Upholstery
(650) 969-1539
1917 Old Middlefield Way # A
Mountain View, CA

They have done many a Recaro seat, and may also be able to source the material. I don't know if they still can since these cars are quite old, but you never know.

Sid's re-did my Verde's upholstery in 1997 and eight years on, they are still primo. It wasn't cheap (you DO get what you pay for sometimes) but I am a happy customer. FYI, I didn't redo the stock Verde interior because ... well ... I didn't like the cave-like appearance (hey, to each his own eh?). This is what I did:

I think they can also do the stitching for some extra $$$.

Ditto! Excellent job! It's probably a little more work than I'm ready for at this point, but maybe in time. You've set the bar high here.

Oh, and thanks for the tip about Sid's. I'll check them out, and if I have them do some work I'll post my feedback.

I checked with Sid's and getting the original material, etc. The bottom line is the last time I checked, Recaro material is $140/yd (a small fortune in the world of fabric) and you need at least 3 yards to cover the front seats alone. The total cost I was quoted from Sid's was around $2500. Needless to say I shelved the idea of reupholstering for a couple years.

After giving up for a while I finally got tired of my ever disintegrating seats. I decided that as much as I liked the original material feel and look, it was just to thin for the application and I decided to get a slightly heavier material and still keep the same black/grey speckled scheme. I saw some other jobs from a local guy in a few Alfas and a nice black cloth/vinyl tuck and roll in a 73 GTV. I asked how much and where and was told Ray's for $1000 including matching door panel inserts. With a renewed hope to get this resolved, I went to Ray's in Watsonville, CA and those guys rule. I got the whole shootin' match done for $800 out the door and it looks killer. Everybody who sees it comments how nice it is and it looks and feels great. I didn't get the door panels done because they still go with the interior but I may change that later. It took them all of one day to do the job. Not to mention I showed up when they were putting them back in so I helped detail and clean the never seen areas and I swear I found ~10 in change thus cutting the price even more

I even had worn down foam and a broken Pirelli mat under the driver seat and they took care of it. They built up new foam to get the shape and feel right and fabricated a new mat from scratch. This is super nice because I did a lot of checking with Recaro and their dealers and you can't find those mats anywhere now.

The guys at Ray's do primo work and do custom interiors and convertable tops for lots of show cars and sweet lowriders. I am definitely going there to have them do my headliner next.

If I can remember I will try to post some pics.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Sid's is not the cheapest, but I'm over 120 miles roundtrip to Watsonville, and only 5 miles from Sid's -- not to mention the time that I don't have for the drive/logistics.

Sid's got it done, and 8 years later (2005 now) they feel as new as when I picked them up. I don't regret the extra dollars.

Holy resurrected threads batman!

FRAZ - won't you please upload pics of your interior? I'm looking to redo the wife's Verde and I'd like to see how you made out at Ray's.

I think it would be about the same cost or cheaper to buy brand new Recaros. You already have the adpaters.

http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/seat/recaroSrd.asp

Just get extra frabric and recover the rear seat.

Of course if originality is what you want, than the expensive solution is the only one.

Hmm.... maybe I should sell my recaros? I have race seats in there... Mine are very nice, except one of them has its support torn. It's the rubber like material under the sponge.

I actually don't want the original Recaro material because it's too fragile. I found a tweed material (just like in my blue car) that's a different pattern. The wife wants the "custom" look in hers too

Eight years on and the interior in my blue car is still like new. It is very durable (and you guys know I track the car, drive it everywhere, etc).
