For some reason, under hard cornering, right or left turns, once in a while it will seem if something binds or the powersteering cuts out. It's quite abrupt.

I don't know if that is what you're experiencing, but other than that, the weight and feel of the power rack is consistent, and quite nice!

Mine does this too, usually on roundabouts or other very sharp cornering. I'm also using a 164 power steering pump, so it could be rack related?

LOL, I'm really, really surprised I'm not the only one. I thought it had something to do with lack of maintenance by me and the PO.

Anyhow, I'd like to know what that is...do you guys have any guesses?

Ok, since I will have my 2.5 engine out on my GTV6 I was thinking of going to the PS from the Milano. Is the PS rack available rebuilt or does anyone have one for sale along with the other bits and pieces?
How how big of a job is it with the engine compartment vacated?

Marcus

Fluid sloshing around in the reservoir in turns? Maybe the pump starts sucking air in a hard turn.

I've never had this happen with the brown PS reservoir. Perhaps the white reservoir is prone to it? Just guessing here...

dynatech on ebay sells rebuilt racks for Milanos. I bought a abs pump from them...some what happy with the results. I would have been better of with an AC Delco rebuilt, but for power steering racks, what choice do you have?

They offer a 1 year warranty on their rebuilds at dynatech. If you find any other suppliers let us know! Dynatech charges $275 plus core charge for their steering racks.

D'oh!

Okay, guess #2: marginal pump shaft seal or pump o-rings. When the pump is under load (as in a long turn) it starts sucking air through the seal and sends foam to the rack, which reduces the assist.

Perhaps have someone turn the wheel back and forth and see if you get any foaming in the reservoir.

Talking about putting 75 power steering on a GTV, I am planning to do this on my 1984 GTV 2000. I have the rack, pump and steering column off a 75 TS. Is it necessary to use the 75 column as someone on the BB said and how do I go about getting a pulley that will run the air con and the power steering pump? Also how do I work out where to mount the pump on the twin cam? I like the 75 power steering. The GTV is way too heavy for me and the car is nowhere as nimble as my 75 in tight twisty bits.

Again, another good theory

My cars still in bits to be able to exicute that test

hey guys
A friends 75 has a failed rack and as the car is a bit of a bomb its hard to justify spending nearly $1000 on a reco rack and labour to change it. I have a 1978 alfetta rack which I thought I could bolt in however after reading this thread I am wondering if I need to change the steering column or any other parts in order to use the alfetta rack. Can anyone offer some advice on fitting an alfetta rack
cheers
