Guys:

A few more details...

My 1989 325i was a base car that was traded-in at a local used car lot. I know the owners (club racers themselves) and they sold it to me for $800.00. It had 256K on the clock, a bad front wheel bearing, and a bad tranny. I bolted-in a used (but never crashed) Autopower cage, had a spare tranny, and did the wheel bearing. I also had to buy a used limited slip diff.

It ran great and I won several races when we had 5 to 10 in the field. Now, I'm a little down on power and will probably have the head rebuilt (3 angle valve job, deck the head just slightly, new rocker arms that tend to break) this year. With 25 cars in the race, a tired engine doesn't get it.

That should get me up to the other guys on motor so the rest will be up to me...

Also, we budget $800.00 per weekend. Some are less and some are more. And don't forget about your safety gear. $800.00 for a good suit, $160.00 for shoes, $75 for gloves, $400.00 for the helmet, and $1000.00 for the Hans device.

So you want to see what your getting into when you start racing.....here is some video from this weekends PRO3 race in Seattle. I was the car that hit the car the video camera was in. My car is in bad shape. Needs a complete front clip and more. Do you want to do this to an Alfa? It will happen. At least with BMW's the parts are plentiful and cheap. I had a complete car for parts offered before we got it on the trailer.

Here is the first lap and corner.......

Awesome vid! Sorry about your racing incident, Fred. Yes, racing incidents do happen ... check out Fabrizio's thread about VARA at Buttonwillow: VARA at Buttonwillow

Milanos may not be as plentiful as E30 325i's, but I don't think many will be racing them either. I think there will be quite a supply to last awhile.

Thanks for uploading the video. Pretty good reality check. Before Nizam posted I was going to say that if the number of cars being raced stays relatively low, it will be OK. There are quite a few cars that are sent to the scrapper as it is, this might be a way to get some use out some of these cars. I've got a Platinum shell if someone wants to get started

Poor 600

I can't imagine people racing cars like the duetto and the Fiat back in the day without a cage/roll bar.

JJ,

Maybe when the 3.7s are ready, we can all put our cars on the boat and ship it out to the Ring! I hope to get my rollcage done sometime this year.... silly thought, but I've always wondered how my car would do at the Ring.

Fred, Sorry about the loss. Though, look at the bright side: A perfect opportunity to build a Spec 75 instead

Ford Focus: Tsshh Someone rescue the Alfas from the hands of these infidels.

At this point? Definitely not. I can't even afford a respray for my Verde.

Later down the line though, I'd love to.

SVT foci are pretty awesome.

Started the process of fixing the car today. First thing is to take pictures of the car from every angle so the shop can be sure they understand the hit.

It is certainly going to need at least some frame straightening if not a new front clip. We will start by pulling the sheet metal off and then remove the engine. Should take about three hours and then we can tow it to Haury's for them to assess.

We will likely be down for a while but it will race again ( I think)

As for a Milano I would like to do one but it won't be this year building a house and a town house now so $$$ is not available. Beside my wife is not to happy with the racing thing right now.

I will be watching you guys make the model and then jump in once the bugs get worked out.
