I had exactly that setup described, but with a front 28mm sway bar and eventually a 26mm rear sway bar. No matter what sway bars I used, I wouldn't call it fast road. The level of grip was always a bit disappointing to me. Maybe if I had moved the battery to the rear things might have been a bit better?

Would you try a 19mm on the rear from an Alfetta GT? The smallest of the bunch? That`s what`s on the race cars.

I've used a stock 22mm Milano rear bar and I currently have the 26mm disconnected. I don't think the rear bar is going to increase grip that dramatically.
All I'm saying is that I didn't notice significant levels of grip until I increased spring rates a bunch.

And Grant...
What are your rear spring rates?
If you have to disconnect the bar they are out of sight!
I`ll bet if you put in a pair of no more than 125lb springs and a 19mm bar that the car will be nice.
I post 125 to 140 lb springs on the race cars and all of a sudden the "140" lb number shows up as what to put in. "Wrong" the 125 lb spring is the one to put in. It is the base working spring for all tracks on the cars I have set up. and is plenty. Over here on the east coast the tracks are rough, bumpy and fast (Daytona, Sebring) A harder car is also harder to drive and slower when you don`t know what you are doing with it. I`m watching you

I notice that Richard's advice regarding springs and torsion bars is almost exactly in line with what Tom Zat told me about 12 years ago. Then through my own experimentation I found it to be true, you don't want to go too stiff with the rear springs in this car.

Richard,
Admittedly I chose the too high of rear spring rates. I started off with 300 lb/inch rears. But, with the rear bar disconnected, the car still understeers a fair amount. Next springs I'm going to buy will be around 240-250lb/inch and I'm hoping to be able to use a 22mm stock rear bar.
My car weighs about 2850, perhaps thats why I'm finding I need more spring? I don't have a full out race car. Tracks in California are not that smooth, but nowhere as bumpy as Sebring. And thanks for watching over me I guess?

Hi all
Haven't been on here for awhile.
Does anyone have any ideas on where i can get a pair of drop spindles, i am based in the UK and what price am i looking at?
I am building a Giulietta stage rally car and could really do with a pair but the UK is a waste when it come to parts for the 116 car especially the Giulietta.
Cheers guys

Grant,
you should really try no more than 175 lb springs. But what do I know

Moynesey,
I have a pair of drop spindles that are 1 1/8 inch drop (require 16 inch wheels)with 2 inch steering arm drop I made for my GTV6. They are Milano/GTV6 type spindles (large bearing size) but I have a set of Alfetta (small bearing) uprights in the shop that could be dropped. All should be done based on each fitment.
Send me an email at alfar7@aol.com. I have a few sets over there.

Different tastes I guess. I already had 150lb/inch springs and I found them to be not nearly stiff enough. I just remembered I'm using 350lb/inch in the rear, which is too stiff, but not that far off. Will be trying 250-280 next and am hoping that should be ideal for my car (very heavy, not a stripped track car.)
Also, do you know what kind of sway bars I have? What kind of tires I am running? How heavy my car is? Ideal spring rates can change drastically based on those variables (and others) as well as what kind of tracks we have out in California. At any rate, if anyone reading is interested I hope to eventually report back with my findings about what has been working for me and what hasn't. If I end up using 180lb springs, I'll surely note it and give credit where it is due.
