75/Milano Heater

My 1992 3.0 V6 QV is a near perfect daily driver, but.
The rotating dial for variable temporature has a mind of it's own.

On cold, it's cold. Turn the dial 5mm anti-clockwise from it's cold 'stop' setting and she's on maximum setting.

It doesn't matter how much you turn that dial through the warm-hot settings, it's just hot.

So, I know the heater matrix is working, there is no fluid loss, the dial switch will go from 'full stop' to 'full stop' setting, without any strain on the mechanism.
I suppose I should be glad I have a cold and hot setting, compared to some other cars I have had.

Is this a common problem, is it a design fault by Alfa Romeo. I can't see it as my car was made in the last year of production and they should have sorted it by then?

If this is the valve for the heater, then I imagine it should be easy to replace.

So, is there any other reason for the problem. If it's the heater valve, any tips on changing it and it's location would be appreciated.

Vince. London.

IŽll think you have a problem with a (bowden-)wire!

HereŽs a pic from a panel of a Alfa Romeo 33 (back side).
Basicly the panel from a 75/Milano will be the same.

ThereŽs an electric-switch for the ventilator,
and (Bowden-)wires for lid/flaps
and one wire for the valve (warm/cold).
The 33 used srews to fix the wires, but the wires from a 75/Milano are fixed by clips.

Maybe a clip or a plastic-lever-arm is brocken, or the wire slip along the clip.
IŽll think the valve (himself) will be OK.
