Engine Bay Paint

When I bought my Milano the accumulator was leaking and the paint under the pump suffered the consequences. I will be installing the new pump/accum. assembly soon and was wondering what a good protectant is for the now unpainted areas. I thought of underbody spray, but I did not know how that would work with the heat. I have seen pictures of engine bays with the battery re-located and spray over the rusty trays and I am curious as to what people out there are using.

I simply used a 'generic' brand of metal rust protector in a spraycan and went over it with some left over black high temp spraypaint I had left over. Gave the tray a scrub with a metal brush, light sand, cleaned it up and hit it with both. Came up looking fine *shrugs*
