cam changes?

Is it possible to change the cams without removing the heads? Reason? Well my heads on my car are relatively new and I have the oppertunity to get some performance cams. Is it possible or even smart to change just the cams with the heads on the engine?

Nizam will tell you that depending on the pistons, (high compression or not?) and depending on the ignition type ("Milano-style, or 164-style) cams may not help that much...

J-or-L ...?

My past experience was that without first providing a way to get rid of the extra spend gasses faster (ie headers, free-flow exhaust, no cats etc etc) cams alone will not be as effective.
