Milano cat and exhaust options......
Hi everyone.I`m about to change cat and exhaust on my 87 Silver(stock2.5).I`ve read here before about different approaches. Some with only 1 cat,and some with 2 cats. Also different rear mufflers preferences too. Some mentioned Magnaflow for cats and mufflers, which i believe are the best money wise and performance speaking.
Would like to hear and probably see(if pictures available)what you have done.I do prefer a single cat system though, but open to recommendations. Also if possible let me know what specific part numbers you guys have used in order to know what to buy. Thanks in advance.......Albert

I have seen a lot of custom exhausts on these cars, and the big thing people seem to miss is the ability to service the car. When you need to replace guibos, the exhaust needs to come down. Same for a clutch, ect. Whatever you end up doing make sure it is not fully welded up, or you will have to cut your system to service your car!
The ANSA SPORT exhast systems are a nice upgrade from stock, fit like the originals, sound good, are priced right, and most importantly, can be unbolted for service. Good Luck!

Yeap!!!
I know about the Guibo accessibility issue, and I already have an Ansa rear exhaust. But I would still like to do something different and save some $$ doing it as the Factory Cat is very pricey and probably restrictive. So why not change everything and make it work at the same time............Of course i do need to still me find a competitive muffler shop,,,,,Albert

I have a magnaflow cat on my 3.0 it is part number 94007 in the link below. I paid 129.99 for it from the shop I had do the work for me. I removed the center muffler and have a Borla XS 40352 rear muffler which was 109.99. From the exit of the cat all the way back it is 2.5 inch pipe. It's a pretty loud system but I am pleased with the sound. Unfortunately i don't have any pics though sorry!

I just bought a TS and am going to bypass the cat, extending the two pipes from the manifold straight into the center muffler, or buy a new stainless one (2 in, 2 out), and then replace the old rear with a 350mm 'hotdog' resonator thing...

some places will not smog the car if 2 is used where there was one before. so check on that at the local tester.
but any new cat will make things a lot beter. the OEM cat was just junk. the new cat are very freeflowing.

Milano exhaust
Hello
I have a 2.5 with s cams. I use stock manifoilds then a crossover pipe with
two high flow cats and ansa rear muffler. sounds great runs good no problem with smog here in NM. Ive also ran with out the cats, testing only of course,
rev's much better and is much more responsive, still passes tail pipe test but not visual. I got mine some time ago from Tom Zat

I had a nice setup on my old 2.5 with "S" cams as well. I had a magnaflo cat and muffler and loved the setup. I sounded great, performed well, and for my money the craftsmanship and performance of the magnaflow products was unbeatable. I had an Ansa muffler on my old 164 and although the performance was good, the poor welds always caught my eye when I was under the car. Now all I need to do is get my Verde on the road and into the muffler shop. The guy where i go does amazing work, has a madrel bender, and always gives me great deals. I have some pretty trick stuff in mind for the Milano

Sound
To those people that have installed the Magnaflow cat how much lauder does it make the system. I mean would you wake your next door neighbor. I read that the magnaflow are a bit loud.

The setup I used was not that bad. At idle, and at regular driving, it had a deeper tone and was not too loud. If I was on the throttle however, it was a whole other story. You could not hear anything in the car and I would always miss phone calls. "I cannot talk now, I am in the Alfa" was a familiar phrase. I never minded it though because I loved how it sounded. The only time the neighbors said anything was when I would work on it and get the revs up in my driveway. I think they were just jealous.
