I think you'll be struggling to find something that fits straight up. We've got a generic one that we had to modify to make it fit the back of the engine, and even then it would only fit with the flywheel off.

We replaced all the seals and gaskets, including both sump gaskets , and the only thing we couldn't do on the stand was put the rear main seal in and put the flywheel back on.

With a side mount, I think it might end up top heavy because the 3 bolts on each side of the block where the engine mounts bolt are pretty low.

If you could design one, and get a welder to make a few of them, you'd have a big market and probably make some money out of it too.

It would be worth checking with some of the Alfa garages to see what they say.

Scott

A couple months ago there was an article and pictures in the Alfa Owner magazine about an engine stand that mounted the engine to it by using the motor mounts that was built by a guy in, you'll never guess, Australia. He built it based on pictures and drawing of the stands that were used at the factory. I'll look for his name when I get home tonight, I think there was an email address in the article.

Well, I tried to scan the article, but I can't figure out my scanner, it does fine for slides and pictures, but I'll be damned if I can get it to do this article. The engine stand in the article is designed for inline engines, but I suspect it could be modified for a V6. It's built to hold the block by "Both" motor mounts, not just one. The author of the article is Targa Florio and he lists an email address of: trevor_fay@yahoo.com.au

I'll probably go straight to hell for give this info without asking him.

Goodluck

Good News: I was able to scan a rather poor image of one of the pictures in the article

Trevor Fay is very nice, generous with his time and experience; and knowledgeable about Alfas. I doubt you'll go to hell, but I certainly would have checked with him before I posted his e-mail address to the world. I'm not certain that's the same one I have, but he may have several as many of us do.

Answering a question from someone on the bb, without realizing the downside issues, I posted Taso's email in Phil., PA. He started getting spam up to his eyeballs. He asked me please to remove the posting, and I did so. But I think the spam issues hurt him a bit and I resolved never to do that again. It only takes once and you learn.

Just a suggestion to avoid the whole spam issue, simply type the email in words and not symbols, so for example, fake at fakeaddress dot com

I'm sure it'd be less of an issue of posting an available address, more of the spam issue

Jim Steck makes an universal engine stand adapter that mounts to one of the motor mount locations. The nice thing about this stand is that it works for the 4 and V6 motors. I have put everything from a TS 4 cylinder to a 3.4 24V without any issue. The only problem with the V6 is that once you have heads on you can not invert the motor completely (put the motor upside down) - you are limited to 90 degrees. I will take a picture tomorrow so you can see what I mean.
