The AR control panel is a warning system for parts of the car. For instance, there is a brake warning light located in the top row and far right corner. If that light goes on then you have a problem with the electric brake hydraulic pump. I had this problem and had to replace the pump because I could not stop the car. I own a 1988 3.0 Milano and purchased it new in December, 1988. Sometimes all of the lights on the AR control panel light up and it is very annoying, but I would not disable the panel because warning lights are important. You can find out the function of each light from your owner's manual.

i didnt get any manuals or history for the car sadly...

i take it that the big rectangle that flashes is to just grab your attention and the little button to reset it all after the problem has been fixed?

The Alfa Romeo Owner's Club in the United States used to have owner's manuals copies for sale. You could also use eBay to find used owner's manuals. I would probably recommend finding the shop manual on eBay. I purchased one when my car was new and it is very good for repairing the car. I cannot tell you how many times I have used it to fix my two Milanos. I hope that Alfa Romeo will soon send new cars to the United States. I believe that you can buy new Alfas in Australia.

You are correct in your assumption. The big red light is effectively a warning light warning light. As you say, the button is pushed to extinguish it if it stays on. However, if it does continue to flash, it either indicates that you have a problem or that the handbrake is on.

On a UK RHD 75, the lights on the top row from left to right are handbrake; brake pad or fluid problem; low engine oil; low engine coolant and low windscreen washer fluid.
On the bottom row they are side lights or rear fog problem; stop light failure; problem with a warning light (therefore making the big red one a warning light warning light warning light!); charging circuit.

I hope this is of some help.

G'Day ????,

Visit my site and download the Alfa 90 Cluster and Electronic Instruments manual for a description of the A.R.C. and it's functions.

Also look at the information page for common problems and fixes.
