Recaro creep

Hey all,

I have the stock Recaros in my Verde and the driver's side seat back creeps back (aka reclined). This happens all the time while I'm driving and even if there is constant pressure on the seat back. I always have to reach down and crank the knob like 2-3 times to be in the correct position again. It's gettng old and I want to fix it without replacing my seat(s). I should have done this when I had them upholstered but forgot to mention it at the time. Anybody know of a quick fix for this?

I thought I was just going clinically insane but I see its happening to you to!
Mine seems to do it about once a week. I'll finally realize that i'm sitting far lower than I normally do and give it a few cranks.
No idea how to actually fix it though...just sharing that you're not alone.

Me too. At first I thought I was loosing it.

Potenziato said to check the philips screw on the reclining knob (each side). Mine is tight, but I'm pretty sure it still reclines a little.

He-he... I used to watch the passenger seat gradually recline itself without weight against it. My driver's seat didn't do it, so I figured it was simply caused by vibration of the seat without weight on it - guess I was wrong. Anyway, the Recaros have since been replaced with some nice Sparco leather seats

The Verde Recaro seats have been doing this since new. I am not sure of any fixes, but it would make driving my Verde easier. Mine only needs to be adjusted once a day. It did not help to swap passenger side to the drivers side either.

Mine does the same too, but mostly the passenger's side, driver side only when I let it sit in the driveway idling with out me in it, I don't think it is the screw, but I thought about filling the adjusting mech with some thick axle grease just so the vibration would have less effect, I doubt this would help if yours does it while you are sitting in it.

I have had four cars with the Verde Recaros and only Blatta had the creep. As 75 evo said, I tightened the screws inside the recline mechanism and it went away. I had the same seats in a Corrado and never had the creep.

It is a known and documented problem with Lancer Evo's.

The back side of the adjustment knob has a socket that retains a friction disk. The disk over time deteriorates and no amount of screw-tightening will truly 'fix' the problem. Contact your closest Recaro distributor to obtain OE replacements or fabricate something on your own. Be a 'guy' and let us know of your seccess.

I took my Recaro seat out of the car and removed both seat adjustors. Each adjustor had a red sponge rubber washer that fell apart. I cut a 3/16 inch thick section out of a 5/8 inch heater hose and put it in place of the red sponge rubber washer. I carefully tightened each adjustor and the adjustors worked like new. You have to be careful to cut the heater hose in order to get parallel sides.

Hi guys,

Mine do the same thing, I need to crank about 1/2 turn once every couple days. Now if only the whole seat would creep back to give me more legroom! Actually that brings up a good point, has anyone ever modified a seat (or floor) for more driver legroom?

We recently discovered our parts car seats had been modified so it could move back further. From memory it was simply two pieces of steel that were tacked on to extend the rails. Nothing special, nothing pretty, but it seemed to work.

I've always been interested in getting the seats lower like in the later models though..
