crankshaft pulley nut - dumb question

Hi gang,

I want to remove the crankshaft pulley nut and before I really start cranking on it I wanted to ask a dumb question. The nut is normal thread right? In other words looking at the engine from the front of the car I would loosen the nut counter (or anti) clockwise.
Also if anyone has any tricks to removing it without an impact wrench let me know! I'm thinking of bracing the pulley to the floor with a small wooden 2X4 frame so the engine doesn't torque on the stand at all.

It moves like any other nut (clockwise) from what I recall. For the price of renting (or just buying one!) use the impact wrench. It is extremely easy and takes all of 15 seconds to do.

This nut is on tight enough that you will have big problems trying to loosen by hand. An electric impact or air powered will take it off in a heart beat. If you must do it without an impact, try making a flywheel lock type device. I have seen others mention this on the BB in the past.

Hi guys,

Was able to borrow an electric powered impact wrench from a guy at work, came off in a jiffy! You're right there would be almost no way to get it off by hand.
