Why does a 164 feel faster then a Milano Verde?
This was just going through my head tonight as I was thinking of my friends Verde Milano. He took me for a ride, very nice car, solid, reminds me of a VW Jetta but with rwd and less legroom, but much better motor. However, the Milano is a lighter car then my 164L, but it feels slower, maybe from the gearing? Both cars are geared pretty tall, so I think that might not be the reason. Anyways, both my car and the Verde are rated the same HP 183, so I can only come to this conclusion. The driveline loss from RWD is eating up the HP whereas the 164 has not driveshaft to speak of. I also have heard the motronic injected 164 has more horsepower then stated etc. Could this be true? Just looking for an answer to a question that is driving me nuts!

Cause you weren't driving it!!
I like the way both drive but the Milano is pretty fast and fun to drive.
I would say you hit it on the nose with the driveshaft from the RWD taking up the hp. Try driving an AWD. Feels SOOO slow but then kicks in when it gets going.
My pop's Subaru SVX 3.3L 246Hp car is slower than hell, the 164 will smoke it.
The SVX just never seems to catch up to it either even though when driving it , it is pretty quick but not my cup-o-tea.
Probably loose 30+Hp from flywheel to wheels?
Ciao!

I think the motronic has something to do with it too, those motors have to make more power then the old L-Jet rigs! I think the Milano would be more fun too, can't beat RWD for fun! Also, the Milano has tons of quirks to it that I love, especially the exterior door handles and the power window switches, they are so totally Italian! Same goes for the 164, I like the climate control and the interior door hanldes, how they seem to be sculpted into the armrests. I seem to agree with the Italian way of "form follows function."

That's it JonJupiter its on! If you beat my Verde its big brother the Quad is coming out from under the cover.
There are no corners or big curves on the track (160).
Eat my dust!

Heck, you want to take on the white dragon and its 192,000 mile motor, bring it on boy! Your Verde will have to trade in its green clover leaf badge for a yellow one (meaning Coward!) Hope you do not blow all those drive line doughnuts trying to keep up!

Hi guys... ok I am the SVX guy here ... OK lemme tell you one thing... I dunno about 164 Q (AWD), but with respect to FWD 164s, it will be much quicker than a SVX with stock tranny (this is important here). The stock SVX tranny (3.545) sucks.... oh yeh its a hell lot smooth, but makes the whole car slow.... but if you kick it into power mode then it will kick off 164. Now lets take out the stock tranny and change the gearing to 4.44s, there ya go... now it will be much quicker off the line than 164 and then add it up with power mode with taking off tranny resistor.. it will be more powerful with quicker shifts.
Coming to cornors, the 164 goes into understeer very easily which you never come across in SVX. In Alfa you will come across noticeable body roll and with SVX you may have noticeable oversteer (drifting) depending upon the suspensions you are having (not with konis GCs). But driving a 164 will be more fun, becos you feel it and you will get to know wht u r doin which is not in case of SVX which always reminds u of POWER mode.....
