is my grille right??

Hi All,
i recently had my car at the local alfa mechanic, and he tells me the car has the wrong grille... to my knowledge it has never been changed. the car was built in june '88 released in australia. it has the orange dash instruments(revs/speed). the grille is the all grey one(the car is red). is that right?? it has a bit of a crack so i was thinking of replacing it and id like to have the right one!!
thanks, Brian

All grey as in the type shown below?

If so, yes, it's the correct one. We have a 75 exactly the same (may be a few months newer) and that's the type of grille it came with. The newer style grille was mainly released on Twinsparks here I believe.

There are many thousands of so called Alfa Romeo experts ... heck even Alfa Romeo themselves don't know what they installed on every car.

Unless you can find accident damage evidence, I would suggest that your grill is original, and your mechanic is human like the rest of us ... ie. wrong

Mine is a late 87 3 litre and has the same grille and orange instruments. Personally I prefer this style of grille to the later ones. I like the orange instruments too.

In my experience, the switch from early-style to late-style grille occurred on USA cars around the build date of 8/88. I wouldn't be surprised to see cars with either style grille being built within a few months of that date.

I think it was closer to October. My neighbours was built in Sept 88 and is a series 1, mine was built Nov 88 and is a series 2.

The most obvious differences are the grill, the side mirrors, the instrument cluster, the steering wheel and the yellow
rear reflector.

The following are series 1.

Sorry, there are many I've seen from late 88.

After further research, I'm going to change my guess to Sept 88 for the introduction of series 2.

thanks for everyones input. just one thing.. in Craigs series 1 pics, it has white instruments with old grille, but oz3litre has orange instruments with series. Craig, yours is the TS isnt it? did all the TS's have the white? On another topic, does anyone know any way to make the window motors quieter?? the front ones in mine are much louder than the back.

If ur out to get a grill....there's another grill available with the majority of the grill having a "mesh-look" ,this came with the later
75's.

I think it looks better & more modern than the original strip grill...just my opinion...

see pic
