Okay so seeing as the mention of the handbrake has come up I have an opportunity to ask.

How do the 75s cope with the use of the handbrake for above mentioned topics? I always had the impression that the handbrake cable, particularly the connection thoroughly disliked any abuse? Is it a myth that should be squashed or not? I've always wanted to find a nice big open area away from everyone and everything to have some fun with the car and learn some different techniques, but despite the difficulty in finding aforementioned spot, I always had the fear that my handbrake cable would snap or jam on.

Anyway, so for the hijack..

drift a rental...

Just remember that drifting is about the slowest way around a track/road as you can get. Keep your car low profile/stealth, as in, no stickers, so that when you do wreck it, the police won't impound your car because it says Drifting rules across the windshield or something else incriminating.... Heck, one Friday a month on the peninsula, police are pulling everything over with any type of racing decals and giving roadside tech inspections looking for anything they think may be illegal...which will mean plenty of time getting to know your local referee station as you get your car into compliance. Even if the officer is wrong, YOU have to PROVE that it is not an illegal modification. I've seen it happen to everything from Acuras to VW's and everything in between in San Mateo and San Carlos and have heard from friends that the whole South Bay was getting targeted on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm-12am...just an FYI.

If you really want/need to learn to drift, use a rental car that is insured. The learning phases can be very abusive and for $30/day, you can abuse a mustang to your hearts content. As long as you play it cool, they may not even notice that the tires are bald when you return it .

If you can afford it, you'll learn more in a day at a track drift school than in 3 months of stress filled evenings hoping that five-o is not waiting around the next corner and you won't abuse your own car while learning....even then, drifting is best done in cars that have easy parts availability...

That's a pretty frickin' cool photo!!!

Does the Giulietta in the pic have a stock 2.0 carbed engine or did he put in a 2.0TS engine from a 75TS?

We don't have much problem with cops, and it's definently safer to drift in big supermarket parking areas (on sunday or at night and with no population near) around cones than on public roads...

Nice pic GTA. Paralel drift

Drifting at School ??

I think you folks have given me another exercise to work on at our next Drivers School.
We have a short "go-cart" track that is not used much. Add a little water and see how well the students can drift the car.
Some credit goes to Grant from No Cal for helping with this idea. He didn't wait for any water at our last school. He just started smoking the tires.

Paul,

I think that would be a great idea. I have some non-alfa buddies that would love to take advantage of a wet layout. A lot of the drifting events in Nor Cal can be intimidating for people starting out b/c of the high speed turns and concrete walls! Not to mention, a wet layout will be a lot more fun for people with out a limited slip of some kind.

This is an extremely common occurance where we (Rookie and I) live. Police defect anything that even looks slightly modified, let alone covered in stickers.

If you have a different muffler, or mag wheels and drive a Japanese car, prepare to be defected/lose your car/license. The police seem to ignore my car

A friend of mine drives a Merc and was defected because his windscreen washers were chrome, even though that was standard.

If enough kids pick up this activity, and it is recognized as a form of motorsport, it would push manufacturers like Alfa to build RWD cars.

Hmmm ....
