Newbie from OZ. TS Info. Re - engine mods/carbies
Hey everyone,
new to the forum and been doing lots of searches regarding 75TS's.
I am currently in the market for a 90's 75TS. as a second car due to my rally car being not the best for the road.
my plan is to us it as a driver to work when i need it and for weekends and if needed a little Autocrossing till the Rallycar is finished.
engine wise what the be bang for bck to get a little extra go ?
also has anyone converted there TS to carbies ? any good ?.

i would stick to a sud if i wanted to rally an alfa.
I drive an awd subaru in khanacross autocross motorkhana and autocross (wipes sweat from forehead)
I doubt many people ( i dont know of anyone) have put carbies on a TS
Stick to fuel injection more power more economy (not that it really matters for racers!!)
Intake and exhaust would be my first go for power on any car!
Personally id go for the v6 since its well technically a fiat/Ferrari engine (don't flame me if i am wrong!!)

The 75 TS engine and the V6 are both Alfa engines.

Not sure on the power statement pound for pound carbs are still as good for outright power just look at drag cars! FI is good for economy and the environment.
the alfa 75TS motronic is in Aus fairly limted to tuning were as a big set of webers and a screw drive you have all the Air/fuel you need.
EFI - computer to tune
carbs - Screw driver
Intake and exhaust would be my first go for power on any car!

from my research the 75ts is a better standard balanced car the TS is almost bullet proof and above all cheaper in Aus[/quote]

Just my thoughts........
The 75TS may well be bullet-proof, but only in stock form. If you start searching for big power by converting to carbs, playing with cams etc, then things can and do go wrong.
The only real way to mod the TS is to go with aftermarket engine management and/or a full rebuild. I thnk Jim K's new book contains rebuild info on the TS. The TS has more potential for power increases tahn the older donk, mainly due to valve angles, but all Alfa engnes are rather restricted in the ultimate max poer you can extract from them in normally aspirated form. Go ahead and blow some extra ai into a TS and you really need to look at monosleeves etc. Hardly economical for an 'interim' car ! I believe Benincas in Melbourne have produced over 600BHP from a 4cyl Alfa, but the engine bears little resemblance to the original.
For a daily driver I would simply stick with a stock engine, ensuring it's well 'tuned'. The transaxle also limits just how much power your 75 can handle.
PS: I reckon V6s are cheaper than TS's of the same condition here in Oz (discounting the 3L).

yeah, u want a fun car, look for a 3.0....
the 2.0 TS is also a good car tho...
all 75s seem to be devalued here in oz, so take advantage !
swapping the TS to carbs? eh, no point... the manifold you can get from a place in the UK... (sorry forgot the name at the mo) pretty expensive from what i recall... anyway, the motronic system on the TS is pretty good, no need to mess with it...
cheers,
joe
