Verde trim question

Couple of questions...first, I noticed that my trim isn't the same color all the way around. My old Verde had the anthracite'sh trim...this one has some of that, but then some of it is black. Did different years have different colors? I'm kind of thinking my car has two different types of trim on it...

Which leads me to my second question (and the reason I'm thinking my car has 2 different types of trim). What's the best type of tape to reattach the trim to the car? I've got one piece that's starting to fall off. It appears to have a thicker white foam tape holding it on. What was used originally?

Thanks,

Ted

Hi Ted,

Are you the same Ted that used to have a grey Verde at SJSU several years back? I used to have a Berlina 1750 and a clean red Verde I would drive there. I remember one time there was your car, my car, and a spider all parked in the corner. Too bad I didn't have a camera.

You can paint the trim on the car easily with a product called SEM bumper coater. It has a flex agent built in and is self leveling. They have several shades of charcoal metallic. I repainted my Milano a year ago with it and it looked really good.

Locally, Center Paint Store near Valley Fair on Stevens Creek usually has it on the shelf.

Yeah that was me! Was that 10th St garage? I use to see you, with the same passenger, heading down 10th a lot in the Berlina...there was also a guy who had an interesting Alfetta...don't remember his name...and a girl I knew in grade school named Sofia (she might have been one of the Spider owners)...not too many Alfas on that campus...

That Verde is gone, but I have another grey one now

Thanks for the info on the paint, I'll have to repaint all of it. Work well on the side mirrors?

What did you use to reattach the trim (or did you do it on the car?) ?

Ted

Do you mean the fender flares and sill covers? They are held on with screws...

Nah, the cosmetic stuff...the trim pieces...not flares. I guess I could use screws, but it'd look darn silly...

The original trim was held on with

1) double sided tape
2) glue

Yes, it's that simple. However, before you go down to Home Depot and buy the above, keep in mind that you have to buy the automotive versions of the two.

There are body shop supply stores (it's in your yellow pages, there are many in San Jose) that stock double sided tapes for automotive application in multiple thicknesses. You can't use tapes that are too thin because you won't close the gap between the trim and the body, and you can't use the thick ones because the trim will stick out over the paint. I don't have the thickness memorized, but you can simply take some of the old tape and match it to the one they have at the supply store.

Same goes with the glue. It's gotta be hi-temp automotive trim glue. Paint gets pretty hot when parked outside, and paint also gets VERY cold during winter times. 3M makes automotive application trim glue, too. The autobody supply store will have both. Expect to spend about $30 for both.

Milano Trim Paint

So my trim is deteriorating badly. Turning very rough, as if the surface is comming off.
I tried sanding it to at least smooth it up.
Sounds like the SEM bumper coater is what I should be looking for after I really sand and fill the trim pieces smooooth.
Any suggestions on the bumpers. They are turning white.

Thinking of starting a Registery for white Milanos. If I could get the address of the other two in Calif. I will have it complete!!

Ah, you meant the trim pieces...
Are you sure about the glue? I thought ot was double sided tape and nuts? at least on those around the trunk and front fenders. The ones on the doors I have no idea, the grace of God?

I picked up a White 75 TS last Sunday... It has a red hood though.

Yeah! You got it! That's why in my first post I said:
