Team Dynamics Wheels
Hey all,
I want to get a set of Team Dynamics wheels, but am undecided on what size I should get...
The wheel size will be a *minimum* of 16x7.5.
These wheels will be used for the track only and will have semi slicks on them, something like Toyo R888.
Now, my question is, should I use 17x7.5"? Or even 17x8"? I know 17" tyres of that caliber are expensive, are 16" semi slicks hard to find?
My car makes about 200rwhp, and will make more in the future, should I bother using a bigger wheel (eg 17x7.5 front and 17x8 rear?) and of course a wider tyre?
What size tyre do you guys using the 17" wheels run? What offset should I be looking at for these wheels?
If anyone could answer/comment, it'd be appreciated

Bernard,
I was running 17x7 with 205/40-17. That matches stock diameter. This works for a stock 2.5 and 3.0 12 valve. However, as you increase engine power (as in your 24v) you may need more rubber. But, I think you will have a hard time finding wider R compound tires with lower profile ratio (maintaining total diameter). Personally I have not seen anything like 235/35-17 (which would give you a similar diameter). For those reasons you may be better off with a 15" wheel. Just a thought. With wider tires you may also need to do something to get sufficient clearance.

What Jes said. The diameter of the tire is the real problem. If you can stand a larger tire you might be able to go to 17", very hard to find good 16" tires, only Kumho sells that AFAIK. 17" you can get nice and wide but the clearance/ride height is a problem. 15" is pretty easy to find and not too expensive.

I found there is more brands producing 225/45-16 tires, so from that perspective choose 16" or smaller. Only Toyo, Hoosier and Kumho is available in 17" in sizes that fits the 75, here in Europe.
I have a set of 225/45-16 Hoosiers on 16x7.5 ET30 wheels, and a set of 205/40-17 Hoosier on a set of 17x7 ET20 Team Dynamics very light wheels, and even though there are theoretical benefits in both combinations (wider tires on the 16" combination or the lighter and smaller diameter on the 17" combination), my track times are exactly the same, and I actually combined the sizes with no difference in balance in the car. So my conclussion was that the width is less important than the fact that it's a r-tire.
I would go for smaller diameter over width anytime. I tried larger diameters on the car as well and the acceleration suffered badly.
I am also having a set of Toyo R888 205/40-17 on Zender Siena 17x7,5 ET25, and they perform well, wear less and has less tendency of locking up resulting in flatspot, than the Hoosier, but are not as sticky.
When it comes to ET, I would go for ET20-25 for a 7,5-8" rim. Since Team Dynamics builds to order I would go for a low ET, since it's easier to have metal removed from the wheel rather than added. I don't like spacers!
My car is producing 220bhp, so it's very similar to yours.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
Mike I didnt get a PM?
The reason I'm limited to 16" wheels is because of a suspension upgrade that will be on the car soon (changing uprights, from Beninca) so a 15" wheel will not fit.
Team Dynamics dont make 16" wheels do they? Anyone got info on similarly priced wheels that are lightweight in 16"?
So, no one has run anything wider than a 205 on a 17"? The class I race in doesnt allow full slick, only semi

Not meaning to thread jack... I am in the market for a set of 16" wheels right now. Anybody got an extra set that are decent? I need 30-35mm offset.

Nothing they are still on, just looking for a track-only set.
Also, they are up for a tyre change soon aswell, 16" tyre size recommendations?

I've been very happy with Toyos in 225/40-16. Seems to be a perfect size on the Milano/75.

I have 225/45/16 Yoko A048Rs. Size is also good for the Milano. I don't pay much attention to the speedo.

Sorry about the wait...guess I didn't hit the "send" button...
Couple of choices for you...
Dunlop Direzza 02G's
205/55R16 = 211mm on 6 1/2", rims RD=632mm, static loaded radius 287mm(+-2mm), max load 580kg, approved rim=5 1/2"- 7 1/2"
225/45R16 = 224mm on 7 1/2" rims, RD=607mm, static loaded radius 276mm(+-2mm), max load 580kg, approved rim 7"-8 1/2"
Formula R D01J
205/50R16 = 210mm on 6 1/2" rims, RD=610mm, static loaded radius 278mm(+-2mm), max load 545kg, approved rim 5 1/2"-7 1/2"
225/50R16 = 225mm on 7" rims, RD=630mm, static loaded radius 287mm(+-2mm), max load 630kg, approved rim 6"-8"
The 02G & D01J have a square profile and appear very W-I-D-E !!

Thanks guys
Mike, those sizes seem way big, I run a Falken 205-50-R16 atm and its huge. Doesnt fit properly.
I think I'll go for the 225/40R16.
