Projekt 75 24V: Initial Impressions

Well I did manage to make it back with the 75 24V from San Diego that I bought off member Alfa75racer. I did nearly hit a dear on 152 coming back at 2:00am. That's the first time I've ever seen one up there.

The first problem I encounterd with Projekt 75 24V was it would kickback so hard that your thumbs were in jeopardy of dettachement. I thought it was either the fact the car has a manual GTV6 rack or the caster ball mod.

I was wrong. The front Koni red shock was blown and had no gas left to push the rod back. So I proceeded to install the RS coilovers onto it. WOWWWW. What an unbelievable difference. All the kickback is gone. Plus, the car rides about a thousand times better. I drove this thing 7 hours with the bad shock. I forgot what a dramatic difference the RS kit is.

Now I have the rearend to attend to.

This car is dam fast with the 3.0 24V in it. WIth the 4.10 gearing, it moves pretty quickly. The only downside is the 4.10 gearing is a little buzzy on the highway. The 24V really pulls like fire after 4,000 all the way to redline.

The brakes are really awesome. It has Porsche 944 Turbo front 4 piston calipers with rotors and custom aluminum hats. Plus it has custom SZ style vented rotors. This thing will really brake with authority.

Some of the goodies like the drop spindles and the lightweight wheels really make a radical improvement.

My first thoughts were too dump the manual rack and swap in a power steering system. I really like the feel and weight of manual. Nothing is more direct. So, as long as I don't parallel park this won't be a problem.

The future of Projekt 75 is to come up with a coherent theme for the car. As it stands now, it really feels like a race car on the street. I would like to add a Veloce or Evo front bumper because this car looks way too subtle for me. So I think I'm going to build it as a 75 RS like the old 911 RS concept. A street legal race car.

I still have some bugs to fix. I thought it was kinda dumb to do beta testing on that route. I still need to pop the torsion bars and install the rear kit.

A street legal race car.
But, it is already illegal In CA it is mostly emissions that is the big issue - no? What do you consider legal for the project? What are the plans for usage?

The car has a 164Q engine with the cat installed. The tail pipe emissions are lower than most Milano Verdes. I meant that hopefully the car could be dual purpose like the old GTA or the 911 GT3. It really feels like it needs to be on a track.

I understaand. I'm just curious which direction you have in mind in terms of technical changes. I suppose you mean legal in a looser sense.

I'm sure it will be fast bring it out!

Actually I don't think it is illegal to install a newer federalized engine in an older car.

I think I need to have a run wit da 24V

If you want a EVO bumper don't forget to ping me, I may be interested as well. The euro bumpers look cleanm but the EVO will make it look more purposeful.

AR4me,

When is your Lester EVO kit arriving?

Red Konis are regular oil dampers i.e. no gas, they are not supposed to push out the rod.

I thought the Koni red were low pressure gas. One shock definitely pushes the rod out and the other doesn't.

I think that even California would call it legal if the paperwork showed it as meeting the 164Q specifications and it had the 164Q emissions hardware. By virtue of its engine, to the EPA and the CARB it would _be_ a 164Q.

What difference do you notice with a lowered TA car with drop spindles? $300 isn't much moeny that APE is charging, is it a worthwhile upgrade?

I can't really comment as to what difference the drop spindles really make. The other car that I had the RS Kit on had power steering so the two feel quite different. If you think the drop spindles are a miracle cure I kind of doubt it.

I think it might have slightly more front end grip. Hard to say since the front coilovers I have are too short so I'm not fully balanced yet.

Lately the RS kit is kinda getting on my nerves on the street. Way too stiff with our really crappy California roads.

It would be nice to get a title for this car from the former owner. Don't ask, long story !
