How hot should the Twin Spark run?

I reckon our 75 Twin Spark is running hotter than it should be. Despite a new rad and thermostat, it's running above the centre line of the gauge at speed. That corresponds to about 90 degrees C on the scale but the fan comes in and out as it should which makes me wonder if the gauge and/or the sender are faulty.

My S4 Spider runs at a solid 70-80 degrees on the road, going up to 88 or so in traffic before the fans come in. As they're essentially the same engine that makes me think the 75 is running hotter than it should.

Or can other Twin Spark owners tell me if the Twin Spark motors run hotter than the single-plug engines? I'm sure the head gasket's fine and going by past experience I'm happy to blame the electrics...

I've got no idea on how hot it should run, but mine hovers also above the center line, at about 90 degrees. So far I've taken this as normal, but maybe somebody with more wisdom can shed further light on the subject?

G'Day ????,

The fan on the TS should come on at 88°C. The thermostat should open between 81°C to 95°C.

In normal driving, my fan normally only comes on after a prolonged idle except on hot days when it comes on more often.

Normal running temp is closer to that of your Spider..

Thanks

Cheers for the info. From what you've said I reckon the gauge reading is out but the fan switch is working just right. Thanks to climate change it's supposed to be like 28 degrees today in the South West UK so I'll fire it up and take it for a smoke.

That's after I've fitted the Eibach springs of course...

Paul

not sure if this helps, from my water temp gauge my TS runs between 70-75 all the time on the move. when in traffic, the fan kicks in at about 85 and brings it down to about 70-75 before it cuts off, but most of the time it will stay firmly stuck at 80 in crawling traffic. it is reaches 90 and stay there at anytime i get worried.

in singapore we have constant temp around 28-35 degree celsius in the day all year round, and with humidity level of above 60-70% almost all the time means my aircon is on all the time too.

by the way i have an alfa 156 fan modified to fit into my car. i also don't have a thermostat in my car so water is flowing thru the radiator all the time.
