gearbox oil

Not to start a oil debate thread -- but after searching the forum some this evening, is it safe to say one of the good choices for gb oil in the Verde is Red Line 75w90NS?

I've always had great results with Red Line in my other cars. I'd like to see if their product can help with the infamous into-2nd grind fest.

thanks,

-ryan

Try it - it works very well for me. I have tried a few oils, including the super-expensive 70w/140 stuff, but Redline give me the best results.

Ryan,
The redline 75w90ns its amazing for the alfetta, I have replaced mine couple weeks ago it feels like having new transmission, no grinding in the second even down shifting second gear,it also works well if you live in the cold climat, since the transmission is on the back takes longer time with regular non synthetic oil to warm up.

Thanks a lot for the replies! I'll definitely give the Red Line a shot.

I too am interested in a good GB oil. Whatever my mechanic uses is the "recommended" stuff and it works fine... except when hot. When I have been driving long distances, it breaks down and becomes harder to make complete gear changes in town. The GB is solid and the synchros are all great including 2nd but on long runs, it is noticable when I get off the freeway and I don't like it. I have used other Redline products in my race cars and I use it on my bikes but have not tried gear oil yet. Is it worth it?

At this moment my own plan is to go with Mobil 1 15W-50 in the engine and Red Line 75W-90NS in the gearbox.

I've had very good results using Red Line MTL (70W-80) in my Saab's transmission -- which are also famous for being weak, as in kaboom weak. As of 160k+, it is still on its original un-rebuilt gearbox and shifts like buttah.

As far as Red Line goes, Steve Hoelscher of SCCA X1/9 (and now MR2 Mk1) fame, has told me he has nothing but admiration for the Red Line engineers after years of using their product. That is enough for me!
