Milano heater hose replacement

can you replace the heater hoses from inside the engine compartment? or do you need to get underneath the dash to have access to the heater core?

Do you remember if one of these hoses on the passenger side?

Thanks, Gilles

heater hose replacement

This message was posted on the AR bulletin board, in case somebody else needs it

The hoses that run through the firewall into the heater core have different
diameters on both sides. The hose end toward the inside the car is larger.
So if just buy regular hose that fits through the firewall, it will be too
small to fit over the heater core nipples (I spent hours figuring this out)
and hose large enough to fit over the heater core is too big to go through
the firewall. You can buy the correct Alfa hoses from IAP. Just get two of
the long ones. You can cut the extra off. To get the old hoses off, you need
to work under the dash on the passenger side. It is tight and you may need
some very long and/or short or flexible screwdrivers to undo the clamps.
Once I got the clamps loose, I used a knife to slit the old hoses and peel
them off. To install the new hoses you need to feed them through the
firewall from the inside of the car into the engine compartment. You can
lube the inside of the hoses with a little bit of soap or rubber grease to
help them slide over the nipples.
Remember, this is fun!
