intermittent tach problem

I am having problems with the tach on the milano I just bought. Most of the time, the tach indicates with a range between 500 and 2500 rpm.
Then, once in a while, I will start up the car an it will work flawlessly. It will continue to function until I shut the car down. Then, the next day, back to not working right.

Since the tach works right some of the time, I hope that I am just dealing with some kind of bad connection. I read the previous tach threads on here and as a result I checked the wires on the top of the coil. I found two white wires there that may be of interest. They didnt look like particularly bad connections or anything. There was also a ground wire present. All of these connections seemed ok.
Should I replace these connections anyway? Or does anyone have a better idea?

Did you check connections on the small black plastic junction box just behind the coil? Pull the wires and close the connectors slightly with pliers to get a better contact.

Use that search function, my friend. You will see this is a common problem with several potential causes. Try tach, tachometer, revs, etc.

Already used the search function. Yielded no threads where the tach function was intermittent. Therefore I posted a new thread. I thought maybe that information might help diagnose the problem. I hope I didnt offend by posting.

Loach1- Thanks for the reply. I already looked at those connections and found no corrosion. I will tighten the connectors more and see if that helps.

Zarcon is this your 3 liter car? Does it have the verde or 2.5 gauges? Might try swapping them.

Monty,
This is the gold with the 3 liter engine and Platinum transaxle conversion. As you know, I just picked this car up and am now starting to face its gremlins.
I have a spare tach in my parts car and I would swap it if I thought that it would solve the problem.
