116 giulietta shocks in a 75

i was wondering if anyone out there knows if the shocks from a 116 giulietta will fit in a 75 twin spark?
i cant think of any reason why this wont work but the guy at the local suspension shop says they are different and cant be fitted??!!!

has anyone had any experience with this and could offer some advice?
anything would be much appreciated.

thanks

ben

Hi
To my knowledge they should fit. Does your suspension guy know much about Alfas? Maybe you might be better off dealing with an Alfa specialist.

116 shocks

thanks for that!
the suspension guy knows quite a bit about alfas, he has owned a few over the years so id expect him to be as good, if not better than most.
he's looked up in his parts book and swears that the part numbers are different.
i was wondering if this might just be the valving.
any thoughts or ideas anyone.

thanks

ben

Yes the valving would be different, the 75 is a heavier car. They should still fit in. Whats your reason for fitting them? If you want to upgrade your shocks, I would fit a set of Konis. A set of GTV6 front torsion bars works well too.
Good luck.

There is one difference between the 116 Giulietta / Alfetta shocks versus the Milano/75 shocks. The fronts of the 116 cars have a "bump stop" right in the chassis. The 75 doesn't have one, and the bump stop is on the shock itself. As long as you transfer the bump stop from the old 75TS shocks onto the 116 shocks you are transplanting into the 75TS, you should be OK.

As Spannerman mentions, the valving may differ a bit, because the 75 is a heavier car. You will probably find the Konis you are going to put in (I assume that's what you're putting in) will feel underdamped.
