Building body for track day project

Hello,

As I'm in the early stage of building my second track day car I got some questions regarding recommended ways of body strengthening.

My first track day project has just minor modification
which include mainly suspension. Presently I'm on my way to build vehicle entirely prepared for track day racing (no official motorsport events - no FIA regulations).

My work on the project started with search for appropriate car. Pretty soon it resulted in finding well maintained and almost rust free AR 75 1.8 IE form 1991 with 15Okkm. Car was imported from Germany but it spent most of it's life in sunny Italy. That is why is has almost no rust. It cost only 300$.

Presently car's interior is totally stripped out and waits for seam welding and roll cage. In couple days the engine and gear box will be taken out of the car. In future it will be powered with 3.0 12v or 3.0 24v.

And here comes my question. I don't exactly know how extensively the body should be welded. A friend of mine who races in 75 2.5 V6 has welded almost every place where sheets of metal are put together. He also has very massive roll cage. But this is professional sport application and I just want rigid car for track day. I know some of you has built roll cages for similar purposes. Would you share your experience? To which places should I pay special attention while welding (front and suspension areas, cross member)? Should the roll cage be somehow connected with front suspension? I would appreciate

Best regards,

Tomek
