It would be dead easy to make a widened dion beam.
Just buy 2, cut the outer couple of inches of one and only 1.5 inches off the other. Grind cut line to get required camber on the 2 inch stubs and weld to "other" dion beam.
You would end up with a cambered dion that is 1/2 an inch wider each side.
Only take a morning ... and then you would end up with only 1 weld each side, just as though you had simply cambered it.

That may work, but you may face greater difficulty controlling camber and toe with a complete cut through of the Dedion.
Also, you would be wasting a Dedion - what a disgrace Or, maybe someone can start making narrow wheelbase kit-cars out of all the dismembered Dedions and left-over hubs

One advantage of the full cut is that you can grind the weld line perfectly flat. With cutting and bending it could get a little vague with positioning ... maybe ...
I would use the cutting and bending if the dion was still on the car, otherwise full cut would be more accurate IMO.
Best

If you realy wanted to add width to the DeDion main tube, instead of hacking up another DeDion, how about adding a piece of 3" diameter ChroMolly tube?

Front Camber and Toe
Jes,
How much camber and toe do you have on the front of your Milano and what camber did you put on the rear? I realise this is probably on your thread somewhere but I didn't have time to hunt for it.
Thanks very much,
Brent

Man I had no idea that you guys belonged to the "save DeDion tube club" .
The only reason I suggested using 2 was to end up with one less weld. Maybe the ultimate solution is simply to make a complete one.

Brent,
Off the top of my head:
Front: -3.7 degrees camber, 4 degrees castor, 2 mm total toe-in.
Rear: -4 degrees camber, 4 mm total toe-in.
These settings are purely experimental!
Pete,
I like your idea of only one weld and extended track. I wonder what the cost is of an extra Dedion? I have no idea what people would charge for one...
I may have an extra Dedion that I can try extending the stub - 1" each side.

Not long ago there was an Alfetta GTV in horrid condition that was advertised basically free for removal that appeared on this site ... that would be cheap enough for me

Yes, but you then end up with an entire car to part out Wish I had the space...

Thanks Sam. Think they'll let you take it as carry-on? Seriously, wonder how much greyhound would be...

I had never thought of this before, but mount a hitch to the front of the dedion and put two wheels on it and you have a pretty good little trailer, surely there is someone driving across country who could tow it!

Quite some time since last update...
I have run the car at a couple of events - didn't miss a beat I got video of some of the races, but I haven't had time to upload, convert, etc.
The rear camber... Hmm... I think -4 degrees is too much. If I had to re-do it, I would try -3 degrees. You have to be much more careful with braking since it is much easier to lock up tires. That is, of course, because I went from 0 front and rear to about -4 front and rear. Toasted a couple of Hoosiers the first time out Though, braking itself was stable (with the Hoosiers, no problem). At the 2nd event I put a less sticky but much more durable tire on: Nitto NT01. With those the car was very twisty during braking, very Since nothing else except the tires changed, I attribute the nervous braking to the tires. They were NOT shaved, which may contribute, and they may get better as the tread wears.
Below is a couple of pics from last event.

I did end up having to use a shielded wire for the remote start-stop trigger for the data logger. At the 2nd event I worked out the last few issues with the logger and going forward I should start to be able to really use it. I'm also gradually logging more and more parameters.
I have also installed a one-button switch at the dash that controls the in-car camera (camcorder). I had a great race with tons of action at the March event, but the camcorder wasn't recording So, I got a lanc remote for my Sony camcorder - single button with LED indicating status. With that single button you can turn camera on and off, and start and stop recording (from the driver's seat), and the LED shows the status Works great
The next event is at end of June, and I have taken some things apart for inspection and maintenance as necessary, e.g. driveshaft is out. Besides the regular Alfa Cup race, Colin and I will enter Roxanne in the enduro. Since the exhaust is off, I'll probably do something about it (hate the slip fits). I have noted that my right rear pads wear much faster than my left rear pads - because of the heat from the exhaust?
I'm also in the process of doing some significant changes to the interior, see pics, any guesses?

Actually, a couple of things going on. One is difficult to guess, but the attached picture will give you an idea Yes, replaces all the gauges and interconnects with the data-logger You'll see that all my non-stock gauges (voltmeter, engine oil temperature, transmission oil temperature, fuel level) are gone in the pics above. The stock one will go as well.
