In the interet of time and not having to buy a new filler neck I will leave things as are and connect the neck to the fender fill. How will I fill the tank? Well, I will jack up the right rear or back up onto a ramp Goofy, I know, but simple and it will work for now... I'm already short on time and really want to run Buttonwillow in less then 3 weeks.

Innovative ideas are key when you need to do a good job and save time.

Looks great so far, whats left before Buttonwillow?

Jes,

What if you cut a hole on the top of your trunk lid and put the filler neck below it? The filler won't be on the trunk lid, but will be just below it. Basically you need support the filler neck with some kind of bracing within the trunk. The trunk lid will have the hole, but when you close it it will nicely seal with the filler neck.

Zamani,
That is what I will probably implement after Buttonwillow. If I have spare time before Buttonwillow I may do it sooner.
Don,
Beside pulling, cutting, installing fuel lines, pump, filter, check valve, wiring for pump, I need to hook up the electronics for the engine and get it running... Main fabrications left are intake plenum, mini alternator mounting and hook-up, exhaust, and then all the little things I'm forgetting

Jes,

If you can't quit finish it before Buttonwillow, bring what little you might have left to the track and get there early Friday afternoon, and I could help you finish up.

Thanks for the offer Gifford I may just take you up on that. My main problem, time-wise, is that I have a day-job (that takes quite a bit of time) to handle They all do, or is it just mine Don't you just hate when work gets in the way of play? Though, something gotta pay the bills

Bosch fuel pump

[quote=Craig;331238]G'Day Jes,
I understand the Bosch pumps don't suck very well. With the outlet from the tank on top, you may have trouble priming the pump.

Jes,
I hear this comment before on the X1/9 racers forums also on the FI X's, the Bosch pump feeds through the bottom of the tank not the top

We ran it this way on the 3.7 with a stock Milano Bosch fuel pump - no problems. With the current setup I will add a one-way check valve between the cell and Bosch race pump (since it doesn't have one built-in). Also, keep in mind that the pump sits LOWER than the tank, which means it won't have to suck, but will be fed by gravity! It does NOT matter if it exits from the top or bottom as long as the pump sits lower than the tank - check your favorite text book on the subject Anyway, we will see.

Fuel lines...

a work in progress... Given past experience this is one area where I will not cut corners.

What's that third line - a breather? Any vapor-seperator on the other side or something...?

Which one is the "third line"? The one from the filter to the firewall is the feed line, the one between the firewall and the cell is the return line, and the one from the cell to the trunk floor is the vent line for the cell.

Finished fuel lines

Whew... finished the fuel lines. In order to not have rocks rupture/damage fuel lines in the "rare" event of some farming I ran all fuel lines inside the cabin. I know it is a debate what is better, but given the rocky nature of run-off area at our tracks I decided to run fuel lines through the cabin (similar to stock). Although I'm using steel-braided fuel lines, I pulled the fuel lines in the cabin through a hard protective metal tubing - used inexpensive conduit. The AN6 steel-braided fuel lines fit perfectly inside 1/2" conduit. The conduit is fairly light and strong - no longer any risk of damaging fuel lines by working inside the car. A bit of a pain to bend it to fit the profile of the floor boards - having to make two identical ones didn't make it any easier...

I remember bending brake lines for a trans am from front to rear, that was no fun at all. Looks good Jes, now for electronics.

Some more pics from the cabin. At the 2nd pic you can see a 4AN branch-off from the fuel supply line. I decided to add a fuel pressure gauge, seen in the 3rd pic. It will be mounted in a plate covering the opening where the pressure gauge is currently resting - in that same plate I will also mount a fuel level gauge.

Yeah, and this conduit is a bit thicker/bigger/stronger than brake lines
