Pics:
1. A close-up of one of the inserted seals.
2. Sealed rear main bearing cap, right side.
3. Sealed rear main bearing cap, left side.
4. Additional sealant on right cigarette seal.
5. Additional sealant on left cigarette seal.

I guess time will tell if it seals. Though, I have my doubts given the short seals

And on went the modified Milano sump. So, how long should I let the sealant cure before I put some oil on the engine? 24h?

I'm not too confident in the cigarette seals. Otherwise I would say that the engine is now closed-up "for good".

Next event is March 31/April 1. Also got a fuel system to worry about before then - the fuel cell is still at least 2 weeks away

So, just a few little things getting the engine ready for test fitting, particularly with respect to the distributor. I put on the Milano engine mounts and the Milano T-belt covers. The passenger side T-belt cover required some modification to clear the ring gear for the crank angle sensor.

The engine is basically ready for going into the Milano engine bay. Note that the flywheel, bell-housing, and starter have intentionally been left off to make the test fitting easier, i.e. lifting it in and out, trimming the firewall, back and forth, etc.

With Roxanne every change, modification, etc. has been function over form, and it will remain that way. Though, tonight I put a red touch on the valve covers and intake plenum - looked a bit dull in aluminum...

Tonight Colin and I test fittted the engine. The clearance at the firewall is pretty good No issues at all. Clearance is better than expected. It seems that it was indeed the best option to maintain the 164 distributor and oil pump+drive. We pulled the engine again, and it is now time to bolt on the Milano flywheel, bell housing, starter, headers, etc. The Milano flywheel is already mounted with the fine pitch bolts from Larry Jr. + blue loctite. A few pics of the engine in the bay. I'll be trimming slightly on the firewall, right below the distributor - just an inch or so, and then we will weld it back up before putting the engine back in.

Nice job Jes!

I never realized the 164 d/b was low profile like that, with all the leads exiting at 90deg.

That's why I read this thread every morning, to learn.

Thanks.

I have been spending a bit of time getting the engine completed - it is getting there... The trimming of the firewall in the engine bay is also complete, and I bent one brakeline slightly to increase clearance to 164 distributor. A few pics of the 164S engine in Milano dress-up... The last pic shows the engine with the passenger side header mounted.

Don't you want to put some sort of heat shield / barrier between your headers and (old) starter motor? At this age, they're very susceptible to failure, usually at the worst moments (e.g. you've spun out on a hot lap, and goes "click" when you try to restart).

Hehe - funny you should ask. Just finished cutting and re-welding and old heat shield - didn't yet get any pics of it.

Here it is. I think this is the Milano starter heat shield. I cut the little ears and rewelded them at the back, and then I sliced open the raised area in order for the header flange to fit in the slot. It is a tight fit but it all goes on. I used studs with nuts for all 12 mounting points.

Nothing major going on this evening - just spent some time cleaning up the 164S intake runners (from the old gaskets and deposits inside). I then installed the intake runners with new gaskets and hardware. Before putting the runners on I also replaced the two rubber fuel lines on the fuel rail. The old ones were starting to show some cracks. Not a super productive evening, but I got a few little things done.

Tomorrow evening I will start fabbing the box for the firewall. After that is all done, the engine can go in, "permanently".

Today I received good news regarding the fuel cell. It should arrive later this week

BTW, the headers are CSC headers. I could not make myself put the 2.5 cast iron exhaust manifolds on the 3.0 S-engine - I wanted something proven with minimal requirements regarding customization (got enough to worry about as it is). That led me to the CSC headers from Performatek.

A few pics of the pretty 164 runners.

Will those headers add points? How's the car doing so far in points utilization Jes?

Yes, the headers are 5 points. Roxanne will be in C with the S engine, headers, and some exhaust work.
