Bumpers need to lose weight for racing

Does anyone have a great way to remove weight from the front and rear bumper of a USA Milano bumper. I have done the drill and chisel on the old car and the results were not very rewarding with a lose of only 5 pounds. I would like to keep the bumper skin and create a light support behind it.

I'd quit while you're ahead and start looking for a set of Euro bumpers...

I have been thinking of the same for the budget track car. Euro bumpers are cheap (in Europe), but shipping to the US is costly. I was contemplating checking in a set last time I went back, but...

Depending on how crazy you are (and how nice you want them to look) you can take them off and mold a new set using something like kevlar or carbon fiber and the right resin/hardener..

I was thinking of something more practical - like cutting away material, but re-use the bumper itself. Getting into making molds, CF, kevlar, etc seems a bit, well, more than a weekend job... from the CF trunk lid and hood we had done for my 3.7 by a pro I know the effort (and skills!!!) it takes!!!

I had the upper part of a US front bumper (without the valence with the fog lights) on the scale, and it was something like 31 lbs if I recall correctly.

This is what I was thinking. I did this with the first car. Drilled holes into the foam and metal until it was lighter by 5-6 lbs. I was hoping someone had a better, faster way to do this.

Get a bigger drill... I will probably end up doing something along those lines on Roxanne.

Well, I know I can carry both the front and rear euro bumpers up my very steep driveway with ease. They are light, not more than 10kg thats for sure.

According to information that I could find via the dutch alfa club the euro bumper is about 10lb and the america bumpers are about 50lb each. So that is a weightsaving of 80lb by just swapping the bumpers.

As next steps you could go for some stainless headers instead of the standard headers and then a carbon fiber hood. That will save you another 60lb, if not more. Moving the battery to the back will move about 30lb of weight away from the front of the car.

How much is a Euro Bumper

The Euro bumper sounds good, but what is the cost to get a set here in the US?

I'd love to lose 80 pounds...but how would the Euro bumpers match up to the Verde skirting? Anyone have a picture of Euro bumpers installed on a Verde?
