Milano rear brake adjustment questions

I have a Milano that I'm putting new rear brakes on, and I've never done this procedure before. My Milano manual unfortunately refers me to the GTV6 manual, which I don't have, for brake details.

Can someone tell me the clearance for rear pads to rotors? Anything tricky about the procedure except using a feeler gauge? Any tips?

Thanks,
Bob

G'Day Bob,

You can download the brakes section (Group 22) from my site.

The rear brakes adjustment is on page 13.

Do be careful, though. If I recall correctly there's a typo in the European service manual for the pad clearance spec. It says 0.01", but correct is (again, if I'm remembering correctly) 0.004-0.006". I know it screwed me up the first time I did it and I had to redo them to the tighter, correct spec.

I have a link to a pretty good adjustment procedure that I found more useful than the manual. If nobody beats me to it I'll post the link later tonight when I find it.

Sorry Tom you lose Perhaps this is the article you were thinking about ? It addresses handbrake adjustment but clearly explains how to set up the pad/rotor clearance. It doesn't mention the nasty little task of getting the retaining pins out after removing the cotter pins that hold them in but that is fairly obvious once you crawl under there.http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/d.../handbrak.html

Yep, that's it. Curse you, Murray!

Be sure to note which way to turn the adjusters to loosen them...one of the ones on the left caliper is reversed from the rest. Also verify that 0.003" spec using one of the other service manuals as that sounds tight to my memory. Other than that it's reasonably straghtforward.

.004 to .006" is clearance and you have to set all four piston/pads to that clearance. Once you have pad clearance set then adjust parking brake cable.

You need allen wrench maybe 5mm and 17mm socket and vise griips for outboard pistons if you don't have factory tool. You need small socket about 7 or 8mm and ratchet to set inboard pistons.

Thanks for your help, guys. Calipers are rebuilt, new pads and rotors are on hand - all I lack is a few beers to lubricate the process.
