Timing (cam) belt intervals?

Can someone give me a time and mileage guide for cam belt replacement on a 3.0 v6 (1988) Ive read contrasting intervals and have a feeling mine may need replacing, (would have got it done anyway but a bit strapped for cash) the last 'recorded' change I have was @ 77,000 miles, its now just turned 103,000.

30K miles, do the water pump at the same time, always better safe than sorry, my Honda belt was rated for 60k miles and it just broke at 61K miles...

But perhaps a non-interference engine design? so that you just re-time with a new belt and you are good to go. Not so with an Alfa Unless you are Greg Gordon

Nope, Honda lets the valves Kiss the pistons too... But I am paying someone to put an engine it it for me, I just don't get my hands dirty with a honda, unless it only has two wheels...

Every 30K miles / 3 years. It's actually very easy to do on the 12-valve V6 motors, like the one you have. The parts are cheap too (although lately I've been skipping the water pump to once every two belts, they seem to have better bearings and are fairly tight at 30K mile intervals).

Change the tensioner bearing, and water pump, while you're at it so you know what you're starting with. Stitch it all back together and romp on it for another 30,000 miles. Repeat. Been doing it for damn near two decades now

My local alfa dealer has turned out to be useless, upon emailing them to book the car in to have a cambelt replaced, they replied with 'we are not sure which parts are required or how long it takes! you would be better off going to a specialist' - er, crap or what!
Anyway, the upshot of this is I am after the alfa part numbers of belt, tensioner, water pump and anything else I may need, so I can do their job for them, can anyone help me out?

IAP or Centerline will have all the parts and the info as to what parts


I do not like the new type of thermo tensioner. it seems to be the cause of 99% of the belts slips as far as I can tell. I run the old type with the oil passage welded up. changing the belt is very fast. you will have to drane the coolent.)that seems to take most of the time)

get the 2 small hoses that go from the water pump to the heads
the belt(s) good time to change the v belts too as you need to take them off anyways.
the water pump
and the big radiator hoses if the old one are old
I would say change the thermostat but that part seems hard to get.

Nice folks and good prices. If you are close enough, the guys at Benalfa (also in Westbury) will do the work for you.
