Audio setup

Hi my Milano came without a radio head unit. The previous owner must be some audiophile that he left a pair of Infinity rear shelf speakers but took the head unit. In the trunk I found two monster cables, not sure if these are amp or CD changer outputs? Because I have my own radio which has changer outputs, so if the wirings are already in place, I might consider adding a changer. Car has very loud muffler, could use some musical distraction Any guess? thanks

looks like 8 gauge cable an amp trigger wire and a set of stereo rca leads; most likely for an amp to run a sub or two.

He had an amp in there.

The big red wire is for power supply (note that he had the end taped to avoid shorting to ground). It appears that he ran that wire all the way from the battery up front (from your other pic). Check to see whether there's a fuse holder (with fuse) for that line close to the battery. If not, I suggest you either put one in or disconnect that wire from the battery.

The two RCA connectors are for front and rear audio line out. The small wire is likely the line for a trigger signal to turn the amp on when the front headunit is turned on (but I don't know why there is a connector there).

There probably are some speaker wires somewhere that goes from the amp to the speakers.

fosgate punch amplifier requires a connector, unlike most amps you just screw it in. theres only 1 set of rca's meaning he had a 2 channel amplifier. my quess he powered the 4 speakers through the radio and a subwoofer in the trunk with an amp.

so thats why you dont see the ground cable and speaker wires in the trunk, unless he tucked away the ground wire.

also for a fuse dont go higher then 30 amps, unless the amp you install requires i bigger fuse, your gonna have to run a 4 gauge power wire.

Not neccessarily - you can safely run up to 60 amp fuse using 8ga power wire. 5AG fuse holder would be suitable, however I'd recommend running a Maxiblade fuseholder as they have less chance of failure.

Upgrading to 4ga if he plans to run an amp would be directly in relation to the power output of the amp. A simple 2 channel amp using the existing wire would be fine.

As for the changer, even if they were changer wiring (which they're not), you'll find each brand uses unique wiring for their 'add ons'. For example Alpine uses what they call their Ai-Net connection, Pioneer uses a P-Bus connection. Both are very different in design, simply meaning you must buy their product if you want to use, say, a cd changer.

ROCK ON

what i ment by the 4 gauge wire, if the amp recomends a 4 gauge wire then change it.
