Huston or Houston I think you are right. Check intake and exhaust valve clearances on those 0 cylinders. If valve have excessive clearance chances are you have bent valves.

What was history of this engine, non runner when you got car?

Steve I'm the original owner of the car it just sat too long and after cleaning gas tank, replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump she started ran for a few days then nothing. So the test made my decision easier anyway and I don't have to mess with it anymore. The car has 131, 000 km never winter driven and it's a nice base car not worth getting rid of. I have all the bill receipts and original bill of sale. I know everything about the car including I started taking the interior out in 1999 so thats what I get for starting after so many years.

Oh well next decision just got easier.

ALFA-75-MAN if the car is solid why not pick up a 3.0L and plug it in.Probably would end up less expensive than rebuilding the 2.5 You could get a good one for +- $1000 Cdn.

Well Murray I've been looking and looking I've made everyone in my family sick of hearing me speak of Alfas. It's not as easy as you think I have a mechanic with a 2.5 engine he wants $1,500.00 Canadian dollars so I would hate to think what he would ask for a 3.0 litre. I found a 166 24v and thats $5,000.00 Canadian so at this point I believe a Verde from California for under 4k US should be the right move.

Murray if I remember correctly your in Australia lucky you...Nope wrong Murray your in Canada

If you go for a 3.0 Verde engine be sure you get 3.0L AFM, inlet tube hose, FI ECU, exhaust manifolds, etc to go with bigger engine.
