Milano head/valve cover

OK, the 88 Verde I have has "ALFA ROMEO" on the vale covers, while I noticed looking into some some MILANO engine bays, that some cars have the same writing, but in script. What gives?

Alfa switched the valve covers during production run.

Generally, cars built after mid year 1988 have the script covers, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

Don't forget, over time some owners with preference for one or the other may have switched the valve covers as well. I've come across some with GTV6 valve covers too -- to further muddy the situation.

However, Joe's right; the earlier cars came with block letters up till about build date of mid-88, then switched to the "Alfa Romeo" script, which they continued to use on the Alfa 164's until the end of 1993.

I am not one to aurgue with Joe, he knows more about Alfas than me, but I thought the block letters were for the 2.5 after '85 and the Script was for the 3.0 engines. I have seen two '86 GTV6's with the Block and one '85 with a Milano engine with the block, and my '88 Verde has the Script. But that situation also fits with what Joa and Nizam said...

Alfa 2.5 engine is a mistery....

Alfa 6 saloon was 019.28 158 DIN hp engine type
Alfa GTV6 was 016.46 159 DIN hp engine type
Alfa 75 and 90 was 016.46 156 DIN hp engine type
Catalysed Alfa 75 and Milano was 019.11 149 hp engine type. BUT it seems that catalysed 2.5 milano was 154 SAE hp so 149 DIN hp (view on sale brochure)

Regarding cam cover I'm not certain about it. But what was sayed previously seems to be right regarding earlyier and older mid 88 engines. Earlyier 88 might have bloc letters and later 88 might have script....

In France also whe still have a couple of tread regarding cam covers...

both sides?

Do both side covers have ALFA written on them, or just the left side?

Well I'm looking at a set on EBAY, and one set is script, the other side is in block, so figured its a miss matched set......but the whole reason im looking for a set is because I prefer the classic script .................
