Alfa-75-Man - you have PM. Don't want to once again diverge from JJ's thread.

Tire Question;

So, Jes and I are making an earnest push to get the two 3.7s out on the track at Pacific Raceways this coming Thursday. Group 2 is humpin' on his car (and I'll have Rumplestilskin riding shotgun with me on my efforts...)

Question on tires; I'm running a set of 235/40/17s on the car right now (borrowed from the 6-speed 164) and I wanted to buy some of the new Toyo R888s for the race car, but need a smaller overall diameter. The off-set and rim-size of the current wheels and coulda-woulda-shoulda comments aside, what would you guys suggest with the 7.5 rims that I have for now?

Turns out that 235/35/17 is not a real size and 225/40/17 is not much smaller in terms of overall height...

For race tires you have no choice but to go with 205/45/17 or 205/40/17. But would it be adequate for the 3.7?? I thought 235/40/17 would be ok with your wide wheel arches and all. For ultra high performance road tires you can go with 215/45/17.

Is the fitment issue in the front and rear? If the rears fit the 235/40-17s, it might be worth doing a staggered setup. Obviously not optimal, but it would at least let you put the power down?

Oh, and good to read your voice JJ.

205 or 215s on a 7.5" rim!? Yeah, I don't think so...

Besides, its not a fender issue, but more of an overall tire diamter issue on the front wheels only - the rears are fine. The 235/40/17s are 25 1/2" tall - it rubs the chassis at the rear of the front arches (even with no side-skirts) and the Evo bumper's wrap-around on the front of the front arches...)

It is a tire-height thing. Is there a 235/35/17 anywhere, or perhaps a 225/35/17 - maybe 225/40/17 - is that shorter than the 235/40/17 by much...?

225/40/17, I think only Hoosier has this.

215/45/17 Nitto NT-01. I used 215/45/17 and it barely clears the rear of the front arches (the passenger footwell).

215 on 7.5 isn't a problem at all, Nitto says it is OK.

Got Rubba?

Johnny,

You do have options....

225-35-17 = 23.20"

235/35-17 would be practically same circumference/diameter/... as the stock wheel+tire (195/55-15). Not that you have to obey by that, but at least it doesn't hurt in that department, although increased width may obviously still present a problem. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone makes an R-compound tire in that size. I have also been searching for wider options for Roxanne (currently running a skinny 205/40-17 which also equals stock circumference). You can get the Nitto-N01 in 235/40-17, which will increase circumference/radius by 4% compared to stock.

Alan at Group 2 made an alignment table for DeDion tubes and they nailed the camber and toe-in on Jes' car first try! Since doing mine in-car was an admitted flop, we yanked that puppy out today and I'll take some pictures of the process on (what appears to be) some mid-evil gynecological torture device... (I guess that the idea is for them to provide the modification as a service for others who want to ship a DeDion...)

Other than that, I have brake lights now, there is a trunk-lid, a couple of fender-sets and a couple of hoods in rattle-can primer black ready to go. My rear calipers are off of the car and split apart (ready to replace some leaking square o-ring seals and then it is back in with the modified DeDion!)

Cleaned all of the loose crap out of the car. Paint-marked all of the suspension fasteners. BFH-clearanced some wheel-well areas. Fixed a couple of leaky sump-bolts. Replaced a few fasteners with the correct castleized nuts and cotter-pins. Insulated the Accusump oil-return line. Installed the rear Evo bumper.

I fired her up again today; boy what a sound! Jes - get your arse up here (he flies in on Wednesday night!) Any chance that you can come in on Tuesday (or earlier on Wednesday?)
