door will not open
Another sad tale about a Milano rear door that will not open.
HELP!
Regarding the passenger side rear door.
I removed the door panel. No problem.
Could not find any disconnects or broken pieces.
Lubricated moving parts to the hilt.
Door still in what appears to be a locked position.
I know that it is halloween. Should I call ghost busters?
Pleast reply with any tips on how to resolve this problem.
Thank You.

I'm with you brother. I've had to live with a 3 door Milano for a year now. It sucks, but it would appear there is no known fix. I've ask every 3 or 4 months or so. Just be glad your REAR door failed. I regretfully have a FRONT door that doesn't open. *Sigh*

try pushing hard on the door. like you are closing it when you try to unlatch it.
and you might need to lift up too if the door is sagging.
there might be just too much force on the latch. so try to unload it first.
if that does not work you might just have to bust apart the latch from the inside.
I busted the latch for the outside on my drivers. and I just had to get a new outside handle. but I still could open it from the inside. and I had to do a door lube and re-alignment after and then it took way less force to unlatch it. but if the lube is gone and the door is not lined up right it can put a lot a stress on the latch.
also there is the safety kid latch on the back doors. might want to check that. if you can get to it from the inside. if it is flipped the inside latch will not work. and if you busted the outside handle. you might be in that mess. see if you can see the wire move with the outside latch. if the metel tab busted like it did on my car it will not move the wire.

Milano door will not open
Thank you for your reply.
Except for taking weight off the door I have tried most everything.
The door just seems to stay in the locked position.
Thanks Again.

Mine was stuck for several months before I attacked it. I had to remove the outer handle and do a lot of monkeying around to get it to open. I worked myself into a frenzy and the door suddenly popped open. It was a lubrication issue. Never knew this was a fairly common problem. There is no love to be found in the shop manual.

I had the problem with my previous 75, except it was the rear left hand door. One day it just decided to stay locked. I never did anything to it, and few weeks later, one day it just opened. Strange.
My current 75 sometimes doesn't want to let me out of the drivers door, it won't open from inside. However, id does open from outside, so I just open the window and open the door from outside. After it's opened, it works like normal again. I've been thinkin about doing something about it, but haven't done anything yet. I have one 75 TS from which I could take the lock and clean it and replace the whole thing.

Yep, I've had that happen on my last car. With the inner door panel removed (a job and a half on it's own) I pushed a screwdriver inside and tapped the lock mechanism. Just keep pushing the tip of the screwdriver against parts of the mechanism until you hit the right part and it'll pop open.
Once it's open, take the mech out of the door and hose a whole can of WD40 at it while operating the lock over and over. After a while it'll work perfectly.
I've had other 75s broken into in the past (rear 1/4 window smashed) and found that the bits of glass fall into the lock causing the same fault. Best bet is not to open the door unless you have the tools around to remove the door panel and lock because the first time you open the door it'll work fine but allow the glass to drop into the lock and seize it solid.

G'Day Guys,
This is quite often a result of the door sagging a little and the lever for the Child-proof door lock hitting the frame and moving to a halfway position.
It is wise to shorten this lever.

I get the opposite, sometimes my rear passenger door won't close. It gets into some funny state where it just sort of bounces off without latching. When it does this you need to give it a few hardish slams and it will eventually catch.

The left-rear on my street 24v Verde is in lock-down mode right now too!
It already was for about six months (prior to de-commissioning the car for the engine-swap) and now I am afraid that with the additional 2 years that it has been sitting outside since then, as well as with all of the pounding on it from the inside (with another helper pushing and pulling on the door and pressing both of the handles, I'm %@$#&@...
So, what's the deal in removing the inner panel - can't be harder than replacing the handles that fail on the 164 driver-side door inside and out, can it...!?

Ive had this on both Milano's, and in both cases the door sagged causing the child lock to jam the latch.
Ive always just removed the door skin, and hammered the latch open on the inside causing it to release. Then remove latch mechanism from the car and lubed well with graphite or similar. To prevent the child lock failure I have also shortened the lever.

The inner panel's easy to remove.
With the door open.
You can see the problem here?
To remove it you need to lever it up to pop the clips all around the bottom and sides. Not easy with the door shut.

Door still locked from both sides.
The only thing that I know for certain is that when you lock and unlock the working rear door it definitely goes into a different position.
The door that will not open does not have this definitive mechanical movement.
Thanks for all your thoughts.
One more please.
