So, I used a flat-flat (home-remodeling-style) nail-puller/pry-bar and was able to pop the door-panel off pretty easy! Only three of the 6-7 clips are broken (and may already have been that way...)

Any way, prying and banging and pulling and hammering and eventually I noticed that it was the lock/unlock-pin in my case that wouldn't unlock the door all of the way! After simply pushing the lock-latch inside there ALL OF THE WAY toward the unlocked position with a screwdriver, I was able to pull the door handle and she popped right open for me! WD-40ed the crap out of it all and just played with it a bunch - seems good now!

I can also see where the two bolt-heads that hold the latch in place, as well as the little lever for the child-lock has been scraping the door-jam (due to the door sagging)! For now I just heaved on the open-door a bit to sorta "bend" the entire assembly upward on both doors and now it all seems good again!

With that done, I am inflicted with a terrible case of the "while-I'm-in-here" disease! I am going after the "bad window-regulator" on this door - I'll start a new thread!

Just a thought. If it is the kid lock then surely you'd still be able to open the door from the outside?

Yes, I agree with you. But no it will not open from the inside or the outside.

As I mentioned when the lock button is pulled or pushed on the door nothing definitive happens. It just kind of drifts.

Thanks for your continued help.

Yeah, that was my thought too... It's not the child-lock, because one can still open the door from the outside! Plus, when the child-lock is set, you know it because the inner handle goes rock-hard!

Nope - get that panel open and then look at the function of the door-lock pin; see what direction the horizontal door-lock arm gets pushed (when you pull the lock to the open position)! Get a screwdriver in there and push the lock ALL the way in that direction and then try the handles!

but what if the child lock moves just enough- not fully engaged, but not open either...for then you can unlock this door only with the key of imagination. Or a pry bar. For beyond it is another dimension. A dimension of sound. A dimension of sight. A dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into... The Milano child door lock Twilight Zone.

I'm at risk too

Just took a look at my right rear door. It is sagging slightly and there is paint scratch evidence that the latch bolts and the child lock lever are dragging across the inner door frame. The hinges and hinge pins look fine, no play to speak of in them. Wonder why it is sagging. The left side rear door sags a bit but not near as much as the right and there is no evidence of bolts or child lock lever contact with the frame. There are factory shims under the right rear upper door hinge that I will remove (as soon as I can get an impact driver, those three hex head bolts are TIGHT) in an attempt to realign the door.
