Arrow DEMON Milano Drafts

I had a bit of time today to play around and decided to draft up what I would do to update the Milano body. For those of you that are familliar with my DEMON build, you'll notice several design cues that have made it into these drafts.

Now, when I look at the Milano, what I see is a body that's just screamin' 80's. Which is fine. But I think it can be taken so much farther with just a few subtle tweaks. Overall, the car is VERY angular and I what I did was just very slightly, work within the lines and transition points by rounding them slightly. Thus updating the body (to appear 2004 ish) and way less 80's.

Here's what was done:

Sectioned 4-5 inches out of the rear quarters
Removed the rear doors to present a more refined 2 door coupe
Pushed in both bumpers to flush with the body
Streamlined and slightly curved the horizontal body panel dividers
Added thin black lower body panels (shared from the lower skirts) to improve the visual body length within the shorter wheel base
Removed the side view mirrors and replaced them with side view cameras within the front fenders
Added a new slimmer front splitter
Integrated twin projector lamps within a slightly refined (but mostly stock) headlamp housing shape
Larger rims (possibly 19's) with a deeper rear lip for a more aggressive stance
Shaved door handles and gas lid

In reality, this is the list that I would start with and then progress into more aggressive mods such as a roof line and windshield tweak. Followed by sectioning the entire upper portion by about 2 inches.

The purpose of these drafts is to inspire Milano owners that are looking for body upgrade ideas, but don't know where to start. From time to time I'll work on other views to encompass the entire feel and post up other drafts/mods suggestions from other members that would like to see further concepts.

Here are the progression drafts.

Ok, I like the bottom one, but I think it should stay a 4 door. The pinch at the waist only makes sense in 4 doors, IMO. Or not...

I like that one best. I also like the increase in the windshield rake. A good thing! You don't mention it directly, but I think the bottom one's front evokes a Jr. Zagato to me.

I'll show this one to the wife. She'll get all dismissive New York Italian, "yeah, no"... but could lead to more insights...

Ok, did I mention Ellen's harsh? So far she was... somewhat more than dismissive. Says you need to try harder. Well, that's what I'm translating it as, at any rate

You picked up that Zagato styling cue, eh? Good eye!! Yeah, I'm gonna play around with the front and rear a bit and have several concepts in the works.

The windshield rake IMO is really needed when upping the modern feel with the Milano as it reduces the overall height of the car, adds more aggression and ties in better with the horizontal lines along the body. That in combination with the upper sectioning (also reducing the height) would/will make the car more low slung and handle better by reducing it's center of gravity.

I like the two-door design and I think it works better with the shorter wheelbase. But I'll play around with a four door drafts in the future. Let's take a vote. Post up which version you guys prefer. Do you guys like the concept of a 2 door Milano or not? Remember, a 2 door Milano would be lighter!!

Try harder, eh? Wait till Short and Randy see this thread!!

As a side note to all Milano owners, in no way is this thread a dig at Milanos. I just enjoy car design and being creative.

DEMON Milano's Front End Treatment Revealed!

Here's a draft I was working on at the same time as the white one above. It involves the Zagato Jr front end within a wide body Milano. I think that the Zagato's front end is one of the most beautiful of any Alfa out there (minus the DEMON'S or course...) and really sets off the Milano with a tad more curves and class to it.

Now, these lamps could remain stock as they are or retrofitted into the stock lamp holders, modern day projectors. Either way, I think this front end is an improvement while keeping it Alfa

I also thinned out the splitter and added a partial black hood to further visually bring the height of the car down after dropping the roof line a couple inches.

I haven't decided yet what to do with the bottom vents as yet but here is the progression from start to mid-stage draft.

No thanks, I'd much rather have the standard run-of the mill Imsa 75. =)

I think the nose is the weakest part of the Milano's styling. I think the rear three-quarter view is where it's at its best... the verde especially emphasizes the coke-bottle shape of the body.

I like the nose, it's an interesting idea. That said, the unloved bulldog nose IS part of what makes it a Milano. Perhaps doing more the evoke, say, an SZ would be in order?

Jury's still out on 4d v. 2d for me. The longer I look at #3 in white, the more I like it, but I'd still want to see some 4d treatments. You know, since we're all paying for it and everything .

Given that it took me a bit of time to catch up with the original Demon thread, I'm jumping on early!

My Verde (daily driver) is now at the body shop for painting, but I have an extra Verde waiting its turn in the wings.

Some may argue that there is already a coupe version of the Milano (Hmm...) so I'm partial to the keeping the 4 doors. However, for those who followed the original Deamon, this transformation should be equally interesting.

Bring it on ....

I would prefer 4 door designs , as that is the only reason I bought the car (my other 3 are 2 seaters). The red designs you posted are very nice. I prefer the originl Verde front end on that design. The way you sloped that hood gives it a Mustang look.
I love your spider. I think its an amazing work of art. I never really thought much of the Alfa spider design till I saw yours. Not trying to offend, but everyone has thier own personal tastes. When i was in high school in 78', my mom brought home an Alfa and a Fiat spider from her boss. He was selling them and I prefered the Fiat at the time so she bought it.
Cant wait to see what you come up with next.

Long time ago a couple of Norweigans (I think it was) build a yellow 75 with SZ front - looked very good! If I remember correctly, there was a magazine article about it - just don't remember where I saw it...

The spider is a car of curves.
The Milano is a car of lines.
putting a curvy front looks very odd. it looks great on a curvy car. but looks way out of place on this car. Any part that you can not put a ruler to will look out of place on a Milano.

Hi Marc, I seem to remember it as yellow, but I'm probably incorrect. There was an article on it somewhere... Regardless, same front

Ok, IMO, and this is half based on what I've read, the SZ was (again, IMO) aggressively ugly on purpose. It was Alfa's old guard sticking their finger in the eye of their new employer.

What I'm thinking is, there's bound to be a middle ground. Something less... resigned... than the Milano's original front end, and something more accessible than the SZ's. Since I'm hopeless at photoshop, I'll just have to *say* what makes me itch is a narrower, glassed-in Zagato Jr nose, with double square lights. I think it's interesting Streetfame is consistently upending the downturned Milano nose in his drafts. I think he's definitely onto something. If I had a place to put it and the $ to realize it, I'd be taking some serious notes right now.
