Thanks for your vote, Johnny. I'll continue to release new concepts. Some will work and some won't. Others will say that I'm on point. While other concepts will have you thinking I just picked up the pipe for another hit!
Either way, I showcase whatever I get suggested and mix it with my own cause you never know where these concepts will go.
By the way, that was the DEMON'S Spider hanging out on the roof, keeping a close eye on the developing concepts!! .
Ok. He just left!

I'm thinking what's holding it back now is the signature grille. An experiment with a body color border, which touches both the hood and the bottom of the spoiler, may be easy and interesting. Adding some crossbars will likely make it less evocative of an Edsel .
On the "not so easy" side, I'm thinking maybe trying a treatment that evokes the Montreal may be interesting to see. You'll get your round headlights back, and perhaps use the "everyone liked 'em but nobody ever used 'em again" slatted headlight covers to reference the angular shapes which dominate the car's original styling. As with the Spider, it's a narrow car, so figuring out ways to visually widen it may prove worthwhile.
I still think the dividing line is too high, but that may just be my tastes. The giant bottom openings may be practical, but IMO they're not particularly pretty. An experiment which rakes the bottom inward, a-la a gen-1 RX-7, may make for something fun to look at. Also anything which curves (or angles) the bottom half inward may be of interest, as the current treatment comes off as a simple rectangle. IMO, of course .
As for the rest of the car, I'm thinking shaving the rear door handles and otherwise visually hiding the second set of doors may make more sense than doing away with them all together. I'm thinking how the 156 handled it, but (of course) with angles instead of curves. Deleting the rain channels and the panels which cover them, combined with flushing the glass, may make a big difference in modernizing the look.

Love the input DS! I took all of what you said into consideration and applied a few. One being the lamps (as a mix), the heart and a different take on the lower bumper. Will all these concepts suggestions stick? Who knows.
Randy told me recently that we're on the right track, But WAAAY far from the goal. He's right. What I also look forward to, is giving the ones that have already liked where things are going, to continue to have an even harder time deciding which concept they like best as time passes. If WE can all collectively contribute in doing just that, I'll be happy.
Stay tuned. I've got some off the wall concepts coming. They may or may not hit. But they will get your attention!

Yes Bro! Welcome back from your trek across the States. I've just cleaned up a draft that is way out there and will post it in a sec.

I'll keep at it. Concepts will be coming in from all over the place and there will be a lot of detail work involved. Having said that, I do want to stay away from four rectangular lamps as it'll be too similar to SZ's square 6.

DEMON Milano - Futuristic Draft
Here is another draft with A LOT of detail in the pick-up and transition points. It's a hard core futuristic version that is very angular.
What's in there?
Larger varied heart depth at top and bottom
Shorter lower air dam
Staggered splitter
Recessed clear section
Slimmer turn indicators
Staggered twin circular lamps (mimicking the Alfa emblem) with recessed CF frame
Central CF heart frame that runs across the hood to around the heart
Floating CF blades (with pointed ends) located at the top of the lower air dam and above the splitter
Angular clear driving lamps with the headlamp exterior edges
So yeah, a lot of detail. You've gotta use your imagination for better depth perception to bring it all in. Do I think this is the one? No. But I do think that some elements will lend a hand in the final design. As I said, I post what I come up with and let you guys tear them down or build them up.
I'll play with it a bit more after some suggestions and then move onto another angle to let these concepts marinate. Returning to this view at a later date with let the best lines surface to yet mod yet again.

I just saying what I like, and I like this: I like the rounded off hood contour. So far anyway. I am not sure how it will look from the side or front 1/4 view, but I think it is def. the start of a whole new Milano flavor.
It's going to take a million details to make that work with the rest of the car, and I'm not going to be much help, at least for the foreseeable future, but you're def. on to something.
As for the 1900, no drafts needed. She would be almost completely stock looking from the outside. Now I am having second thoughts, though. Sometimes I lean towards a 2600 Sprint, or even a god-damned Berlina! Can't you see it? An almost stock looking Berlina with a full blast Screamer. Dusting old 911s like they're standing still. Hee!

That's a MUCH better version. Adding more shapes to the lower section especially helped visually relieve the whole thing. I'm still not sure I'm sold on those round headlights, but this version at least doesn't "clang" quite as violently as the first treatment. I still think it would be interesting to put the heart in body color to tie the top, center, and bottom colors together. The front as it is now is mostly black, adding more color might lighten it up. You kids and your carbon fiber...
The only other thing that immediately struck me was those bottom corners would make for nice fog light placement. However, I'm not sure how well it would work to add yet another set of small squares to the front.

Michael,
What I mean is that this is the BEST looking 75 EVER. You just CAN'T improve on this thing. Especially if you, like me, has been around this car IRL for some years.
You COULD try som SZ/ ES30 idea's on the nose though. Six rectangular lights maybe?
Lot's of cool 75 pics on Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board & Forums ......From mild to wild modified.

Mabey. I'll look into that and try them out. But for now I'd like to take a break from this particular front view to keep the thread interesting. I'll return to it once I feel we have some more ammo.

Sure about that, Rik?!
I'd say that this Fortress Milano is the best one out there. It's body kit really does help the car. But even more important than that, is the exterior color choice along with those lines - flat black. IMO, the number one color that make VERY angular cars stand out. It does nothing for curvy cars and combined with a full race exterior, it really works. I would not alter the Fortress much. Just fine tune it a bit. The profile is great and I'd change the fender vents but other than that, I'd leave the profile. However, the front and rear are another story. They could be taken further. But not in a drastic way either.

DEMON Fortress Milano Tweaks (Initial)
Here is a (lack of a better word) "stock" Fortress followed with by initial line and transition point adjustments I made. Along with the obvious lower intake change, the splitter is also thinner - giving the front a WAY more cleaned up face. Headlamps are outlined for a street speck version and those lines are also indicated.
The changes are not over the top and even with this (incomplete) quick draft, IMO, it shows just how messy things are up front along with how all over the place the original lines are.

You call *that* "not over the top" ?!?
Again, I think it'd be interesting to try a slat treatment, just for the f- of it.
Otherwise it's just more proof that you need to go work for a car style house. Yours has it all over theirs, and can't possibly be that much harder to make.

shOrtlife, And that bears the question. In what condition, running or not? clean or rotted?
complete or missing bits? engine or not?...etc,etc, They are a 'dime-a-dozen.'
I'm willing to "cough-up" something...at least partially.....Ed K.

Function over form. It is a race car before anything else

The Fortress Milano's lines and corresponding R&D is not on par with the latest cutting edge design and technology of 2009. Now, my lines (form wise) are not either. I don't have that educational background. But compared to what the present example exhibits, what I've outlined is a first step in the right direction for more visual sense. Form following function has it's place and with this car, the form falls way behind because it's dated. What I highlighted and stated was for a street spec version. Therefore, a street version does not require the utmost extreme measures that are taken as in racing. Since when did a manufactures street version out accelerate, under brake, weigh less, have better cooling and carve a lower drag coefficient than it's track/R&D/racing promotional product? So, obviously, designing a track car is about function over form and every step is taken to try and one-up the competition and prove your product. The same applies to street versions. Just not as extreme and adjustments are made accordingly.
DS just said the rest. The build team/factory could easily make the changes I outlined without sacrificing it's performance with a thinner splitter and an air intake's lines that makes more visual sense without breaking a sweat. Afterall, it's what they do. All they gotta do, is crunch the numbers to insure the new design introduces even more cooling efficiency for the engine and brakes than prior. Then design a splitter that not only functions and delivers even more down force, but is more pleasing to the eye and less bulky. I believe that's called evolution and what racing teams do from each year to the next - design a better car to keep up and compete to win races. Would they REALLY care to do this? (worry about aesthetics as much as I'm highlighting?) Probably not. Because they were satisfied with what they came up with. In the end, it's function over form - a track car. But for me, I just don't like the way it looks and if I was head of the design team, I'd push make these changes to not only better the car's overall performance, but make it even more beautiful. Mabey the present design was limited to adhere within certain racing rules. I'm not sure. Either way, I know they can do better, visually. At the same time, improving the entire car's performance. It's that same train of thought when others have pushed me here to design the DEMON to be better.
On my DEMON build, it's form over function. I don't care for the lightest wheels, every panel in CF or the most powerful engine from Dawie for a dedicated street burner. That's not necessary for my personal usage. The same goes for these Milano drafts. Form is the issue. For that simple reason, I care more about how the car looks than performs. But make no mistake, the DEMON moves, handles, brakes and sounds like all hell. However, if my focus was the other way around, a DEMON race spec version could easily of been built. I would of just put my finger up and told Dawie, "I'll have what Johnny's having." The rest would be insane. A custom CM Tube chassis, complete CF body, Dymag wheels and a sequential box, just for starters.
