New Verde owner
Hi all I just bought a Verde and I am looking for some input or help with it.
So far I have given her a tune up and just driven her, but this winter I'm looking to rip into it and get some serious work done.
I'm thinking right now I would like to keep her N/A unless I can get my hands on an old callaway turbo kit.
So here are my questions:
What do people do for standalone? I'm very familiar with SDS do people run that?
Is there anywhere that makes ITBs for the 3.0 or will i have to fab a kit?
Where can I find this body kit?
The car has sperry stage 2 heads does anyone know the flow #s for them?
Finally is there a source for replacement sheet metal I could use a new rear quarter.
Here is a pic of the car the day i got her.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Mike

A stage 2 prep is (as I understand it) about as extreme as it gets for a street car. Don't mess with turbos, go visit Greg's site:
Supercharger Kit
I won a bar bet with a ricer b/c of Greg. My ricer friend didn't believe anyone was loopy enough to put out an FI kit out for a 20+ yr old Italian sedan. That was some good beer, let me tell you!
Do what I did. Make a list of all the stuff that doesn't work on it, and then fix something every weekend. I've dedicated 9 months of weekends to our Milano so far. By the time you're done, you'll know a lot more about the car and what you may or may not want to do with it.
And post some more pictures, dangit!

Oh, and as far as body panels, ring up Alfa Parts Exchange. They're out in CA, so shipping won't be fun, but they'll almost certainly have what you need.

Thanks for the Info on the body parts. I have done turbos on quite a few VW's and just finished helping a friend with a RB25DET swap into his 74 240z. I really feel that an eaton MP62 is a bad choice for the three liter. I'd rather use a vortech or lysholm style charger, if i do the ITBs.

IMO there is alot more to be gained in the suspension department rather then spending $10k on an engine that will just break the transaxle. lol If you are driving it around make sure that the timing belt was done recently enough, or you really will need to do some major engine work.

It has new koni yellows and a bunch of newer suspension other bits. It has 112k on the clock and the timing belt was done around 80k. I have almost all the service records since it was brand new. Most of the work is going to be done by me or friends who are pros so cost is not much of an issue besides parts.

My advice would be to spend some time to make sure all of the major mechanical components are in good condition, then put some hard miles on the car and see how it performs.
I think you might find it's more capable than you think. Of course, these cars are great fun with huge power, but are actually capable of going quite fast with the moderately upgraded power you would see with Sperry big valve heads.
I would agree with Travis, too, that the most logical place to spend money is the suspension and brakes (which will need some upgrading if you plan on any track time).
And yes, you are definitely living on borrowed time with that timing belt, you should replace it whenever you buy a new V6 Alfa. Period.

How often do you even need to change the timing belts? Im used to 80k intervals with VW. Does the tensioner need to be changed as well?

30K is the interval for the timing belt and water pump. There are several styles of tensioner, each with it's own pluses and minuses [do a search on this forum, lots of discussion on the types of tensioners]. Usually you need to change and/or rebuild the tensioner at least every other belt change.

Yea, Id strongly recomend not driving it again until you replace the timing belt. If you drive it for a while you may realize you dont need a ugly body kit or 300 hp for it to be fun, just a bit of suspension work and good tires is plenty. lol

Hi Mike,
Nice car, the Sperry Stage 2 heads are quite special. The answer to your question about SDS is yes. I have two Milanos sitting here right now with SDS, it's a very good system.

Sweet I might have to see if i could get a base map off of you soon. quite a few VWs in town run SDS and make some really good numbers. We just got my friends RB25 fired up and will be tuning that now. Guess its time to go and order a new timing belt. The suspension has been upgraded already with 27mm swaybar and different torsion bars I believe. Also it has stainless brake lines what else besides nice pads and slotted rotors are there for the brakes. My main plan is get her running good then drive the hell out of it this summer then tear down this winter.

there are carbon fiber panels available from the UK, since the car is a bit heavy. also i would recomend you change out the front seats if there still in good condition, cause hte material is no longer available thats if you care about it.

my timing belt will be here tomorrow but today she developed a rotating thud noise. Could that be the driveshaft? Are the flex joints common things to replace does anyone make a 1 piece driveshaft?
