I used to have a 327 in a 1953 jeep that sounded just right.
max speed was 65MPH at 8000RPM the thing held together.
it had a big glasspack on each side. I could get to 65 very fast. Put it in 1st hit the gas let out the clutch move the shifter down up down as fast as I could (no clutch)and I was at 65. Now a while back I had the mount bust on the muffler on the alfa 3.0 and it cut a slot right before the back muffler. The slot was just right it was not too loud but it fixed the sound. Some came out the slot and the rest wen't out the muffler. It had the sound like I had with the 327. I got lot of quick head turns. The down shift sound real good.
but I fixed it when I needed to smog. The sound is not right with the muffler. It is missing all the hi notes. it might be fun to see what it woud sound like with a glasspack
the muffler seem to give a very low boom boom sound. the glaspacks seem to have a more open pipe sound just not as loud. I know the sound is there on the 3.0 I think the muffler is just not right for it. it might be right for the 2.5

Nothing.. well. maybe not quite nothing. :P

So many greats, Alfa V6 12v is def. up there, esp. when you consider the price of the others.

Alfa 24v sounds wickedly sophisticated. You have everything, the growl down low and the sweet science up top there. I still like the brutal 12v more though..

F40 is pretty damn amazing. Yes Evil like some others said.

the Diablo actually made me take a step back as it was turned over and revv'd, thought maybe I upset it. hehe

American.. I dont think anyone has said the v10 Viper? wow... even in stock form,

Anything Italian v-12 and webers will make me go yeaaaa.. a 275 Gtb/4 I once heard comes to mind.. wow.

Anything Italian v-8 and FI will make me go yeaaaa too haha 308gtbi euro.. pipes.. sounds great.

From TV but not personal.. those Lempredi 4 cyl big bore ferrari's always sound amazing but never heard one in person.

my all time personal favorite though was my first Alfa, an original european Alfetta Gt !.8, basically a 1750 motor with an alfetta crank, stock ansa exhaust.. beautiful.. rev forever...miss that one..

this one sounds pretty good too..

I gotta vote for a Datsun 240 or 280 in-line 6 with loud exhaust

Also my memories of P-car 935 twin turbos at Riverside. Not loud but nice.

And the first time I came to Riverside 1975 during early morning CanAm practice. You entered the track through a tunnel in a hard acceleraton point through turn 1. WOW

But back to Alfas, Larry Dickman's GTV6 sounds soooo sweeeet.

And any Alfa I get to drive on the track . . . . .

Alfa noises

A vintage Ferrari V12 wound up is a sound that's hard to forget. A V6 Alfa is a great sound (there's a clip of a modified blue GTV6 coming onto the front straight at Portland(?) that is amazing). A Ferrari Dino V6 is quite a sound. An old Maserati straight 6 is something I can still hear. Then again, my 1600 Duetto (with big pipes and one muffler), late at night in one of the Seattle tunnels, sounds pretty sweet - it resonates at about 3000 rpm and just bounces off of everything.

Years ago I was at a vintage race for pre 59 cars. The best sounding car was powered by a 2L Bristol 6 cyl. It sounded WAY better than the 2 early Ferrari V-12's that were there. Late on a really quiet night my friend and I were driving our 116 series sedans - both with euro exhausts & twin tip Ansas - and we were both driving relatively 'normal', only revving to 3-3.5K and they had such a nice burble - I will always remember that sound. When I really rev a 2.5 (in a GTV6) I can't imagine a better sound. I was following a 2004 Mustang GT the other morning and it sounded fantastic, I ALMOST followed it to find out what kind of exhaust system it was. I drove a 328 and was wholly unimpressed. I drove a early Boxter and thought ' gee this would be PERFECT if it sounded like my GTV6 '. Sometimes comparing our Alfas sounds to a Ferrari - is an insult!!!

I don't care one whit about which sounds 'better', I only care that what I drive gives me pleasure. I run my Verde with a 2 1/2" Magnaflow cat, 2 1/4" pipe behind that to a 12" resonator behind the rear axle with a shortend GTV-6 stainless 'S' pipe for a tailpiece. Yes, to be polite I feather it in the neighborhood and it does bark and pop some, but oh how it does sing and no, I never bother with the audio system.

Car sounds movie

Here is a collection of car sounds, including a B6 A4 1.8t with Abt exhaust, MK IV GTi VR6, Passat W8 (flat plane crank), and my Verde. Sound quality isn't the greatest, but it will give you an idea of things.

I like the sound of my 12V 2.5 and of course any Ferrari V12
but I also like the sounds of:

A Chevy or Mopar high compression big block at Idle.
A large diesel truck engine at Idle.
Both of these emit sounds that equate to gobs of HP at bay.

And a F-14 on the the ground going into afterburner .

BRM V16, supercharged running methanol. Revs like nothing else and not a muffler to be seen...

If noone has said it yet, the 1975 porsche 911 thats sitting in my garage has a 3.7L twinspark, and that thing sounds very high preformance. Makes my alfa's engine sound like its a quiet engine. When you step on the throttle in the porsche, it just throws you into your seats and the engine noise takes over.
