Speedometer sender
Hey, I took out my Milano today and the speedometer decided to completely not work, it hasnt worked for the few times i went out today, I checked international auto for parts, but the closest i came to was the gtv6 speedometer sender. Will this fit in my 88 milano, or did things change between the two?

What makes you think it is the sender? The speedometer (and tachometer) in the milano often fails - I had one where tapping the instrument cluster would wake it up - after a while that didn't work either...

if the speedo acts funny, but everything else remains normal, then its the sender. i had this problem, havents fixed it yet but its comon sence, why wouls the speedo drop and jump, while everything else is normal?
and when i changed gears it would work again.

Because of faulty speedo electronics - coils getting brittle, shorting out with temp etc, a ton of reasons.
How do you know if you haven't fixed it yet? Though, you gear change impact points in that direction.

What you have described is a fairly normal failure mode for the Milano speedometer. It is usually a bad or intermittent connection inside the speedo or the box underneath the rear seat cushion - failures of the sending unit at the tranny are less common.

Thanks for the tip Joe. Have had this problem for months.
But if I finally fix my Milano speedo/odo problem my increadible gas mileage will go away.
I am up to about 97mpg!!! And the car does 120mph in first gear.
Not bad for a car with 300000 miles, 80000 on the motor.

My Milano has the same problems with the speedo. I replaced the sending unit with one that was know to work and that fixed the problem temporarily. The speedo will work fine until a certain speed and then quit. When I let off the throttle it comes back, until I get back on the throttle. The speed at which this is a problem seems to get lower as the temps go up. Has anyone had the sending unit cut open to see what is inside? I am just curious. And if the sending unit is less common as a problem, has anyone had any luck with fixing the problems with the black box or the speedo itself? I like being able to know how fast I am going.

I say build a new cluster using VDO 3 3/8" Electronic Tach and Speedo... Im investigating this because my tach is nearly deceased, and my Speedo has gone haywire a few times... the Tach is a very straightforward installation, but the Speedo may require a pulse / hall effect trigger, which VDO sells, but Im not sure where I'd install it...

Here's a new wrinkle: the speedo needle goes to the max and the odometer starts racing along with the sound of a motor inside the guage cluster. Is it the black box, the sensor, or the speedo? this particular car has only 38000 on it and has sat and sat.

Where is located the sending unit on a 1.8 Turbo car?
A friend of mine told me that on his car (2.0 TS) it is located inside de car under the rear seat, but I checked that in mine, and it isnīt...
