Dear AlfaSAM. I see you are doing your very first post and just started on the AlfaBB in March 2009. I have no idea where you are located or what prior knowledge you have of current Alfa culture. FIRST OF ALL. WATCH OUT FOR FAKES. Not every car is what it is represented to be. For example, extra Disco Volante cars keep popping up and are claimed to be that one rare number that might or might not still exist. And then, later, there is the acknowledgment that the car was really a fake. While the cars might be quite valuable, they are not worth what a real one would be.

Usually Alfa left the first 15 VIN numbers unused so various body makers could do prototypes until Alfa picked which one it wanted to build. I know in Tacoma, Washington, there is one of the early Giulietta prototypes (00007, I am inclined to believe I recall). That one is NOT one of the two 750 competitione samples of which I sent you a photo taken in 2004. That car is known and exists. If the car being offered to you is actually one of these two abarth built 750 competitione cars it would be quite valuable. But FUSI, the acknowledged expert who was at the Alfa factory for years and years and did so much research GIVES NO VIN numbers for the two 750 competitione cars. He does indicate that the very first pruduction Giulietta spiders with only 1495*00016 and 1495*00017 (two cars) in 1954, and then the combined run in 1955 of Giulietta Spider and Spider veloce with 1495*00018. But it is certain that there is one Bertone prototype (the one they decided to build) in the museum and that was either one of two or three, and there was at least another other bulders who did cars too I understand the numbers 00002 and 00004 are accounted for, as are 00005, 00007 and 00009. But be very careful about the car. 1495*00015 (if it really is the valid VIN) might be a prototype. If you can get pictures you should provide them to some of the more expert members of the BB for their input to you. Do not worry everyone is trying to slip in an buy the car ahead of you. Alfisti usually have their own likes and dislikes and already are buried in too many cars. I don't particularly like Giuliettas, so I am not that knowledgeable about them. Still, I might be enticed by a 750 competitione if one were found (although realistically I could never pay what one might be worth). I know, however, of at least one competitione look alike that was "made" by a long time Alfa guy. It might very well be that someone else not quite so ethical now has it and is pulling your strings. BE CAREFUL. I would never want to be blamed for your decision to buy something that I could not myself check out and verify. Do not get stampeded. I am very sorry if I have in any way caused you to take any unjustifiable risk. Jay Nuxoll.
