    Hi,
Yeah half of my mates are also into the "my commodore is so great because I can go fast in a straight line scene" too, I agree it's very annoying. Well what helped me win was probably because I was using a GTV6, it surprised my mate when it kept up with his 2004 commodore s-pac 5sp manual in a straight line, then blew him away in the corners. The car is not completely stock, ANSA centre section in the exhaust and koni yellow shocks all round, but still that's only going to get me 170hp at the most.
Yeah I hear you about the 2.0, mine is/was very tired (now sidelined with broken timing chain tensioner) with low oil preassure and it got out dragged by the latest shape Hilux turbo diesel , mind you me missing the 1st to 2nd shift probably didn't help.
If you wanna shut your friends up take it down a nice twisty road, then see how much faster their lead sled is, even with my 2.0 on standard suspension and narrow (well compared the them) tyres it still held it's own against most of them and was even quicker than a few, despite being only a "milk bottle" (only milk comes in 2lt lol) car. Anyway just enjoy the car, they are so much more advanced, particularly in the suspension area (dedion tube rear end double A-arm front with torsion bars) than even a mid nineties commodore (in most cases solid rear axle and ugly strut front suspension, cheap to build not that great for performance), it will always be worth more, sound better and it's a 80's italian sports car, something a holden or ford will never be. Plus you actually stand out more in a GTV than with a ford or holden, even if they are modified because everybody has a modified ford or holden.

    Hope you have fun.

    Simon
