Prefer emails. Sounds like you have cam timing / overlap problems from old type cams.

    Richard,
Gordan Raymond suggested I cantact you on a 1750 distributor issue.
I've tried to read most of the post on electronic ignition and worn distributors. My eyes are now permenantly crossed and "my brain hurts".

    I am working on a friend's '71 1750, 40DCOEs, with a Bosch JF 4 distributor and a Crane XL3000 ignition.

No matter what I try (mixture adjustment, playing with the advance, etc) I still get the dreaded "spitting" through the Webers. The engine revs very badly.
An examination of the Bosch JF 4 in the car reveals the the advance weights and springs are free to move.

What's the concensus? Is it time for a new distributor, like those sold by Centerline?

Hey Richard, I was wondering, given your experience, have you written any, or would you consider writing any automotive books?

    Cheers, Howard.

Just got a reply from Gordon R. ( I thank him for that. ) I've got to replace the head gasket in my '76, 2.0 L Spider. Unfortunately one of the head mounting studs is broken. He said that you have some recent experience in this operation and that you're a man of creditable knowledge. I've been told replacing the stud can be any where between a routine operation for a guy with a wrench, to nightmarish. If you would share your experience I would appreciate it. This is my first Alfa, I really hate to get into it and screw something up worse than it was before.
